Talking about tip, I clearly see the cultural difference at escort scene between Japanese customers and non-Japanese customers, mostly American that were grown up with tip custom society.
I have had met lots of American clients through escorting.
When I refused tip politely, they actually pulled it back.
I had some Japanese customers who tipped me as well; not so many, but there is always hidden Japanese rule.
Customers offer, I reject once saying "please keep it for now and use it for your next visit, that would make me happier"
Customers still insist me to keep it and I take it hesitantly.
Non Japanese customers usually take my word as it is. I am not complaining. I don't conut on getting tips.

I always end up eating the chocolates I bought as a gift beforehand, so I never have anything left to share during the session.

I would guess most people take the tip back so as not to offend.

Coming from a culture where tipping, even for bad service is seen as almost mandatory, and moving to a culture where there is no expectation to tip, for what is on the most part exceptional service. Then I can see peoples dilemma, as they don't want to force their cultural "tipping" onto you and cause offence.

I think the giving of a small gift is a much more subtle way of saying thank you and far more aligned with the Japanese way of doing things. In fact, I think this is the first time I have ever heard of anyone suggesting that giving them a tip is OK. They are always the upsell, so it never ends up being a good experience. May as well book from a reputable agency, as the 10k they originally quote always ends up going over and above a decent session with an agency woman.

It's all in the presentation. Given as a wadded up bundle of bills with an explanation in fumbling Japanese at the end of the session: no.
Reframe it as thinking about the woman beyond the session, and it's a completely different scenario.

Gifts should be reserved for the third or fourth session if the GFE feels genuine. IMHO, you end up looking like a sap if you give too early.
