Beware of Roppongi and Tokyo Club Scams

In Roppongi, and other Tokyo clubs in Shibuya and Shinjuku, women predators try to trick men (usually tourists) into buying expensive wine and champagne.

The bottle of wine or champagne costs from 15,000 yen to 40,000 yen ($150 dollars to $400 dollars). The club splits the profit between them and the scamming women that get you to buy drinks.

Usually a Japanese, Filipina, or White woman woman will befriend you and pretend she likes you. If a White woman, they are often from: Romania, Russia, or from Eastern Europe. Occasionally, it's a Black woman, and if so, usually she is African. There are lots of Japanese women in on this trick, and you can often tell because they are good friends with the club staff.

She will then ask you to buy her drinks. To encourage you, she will kiss you and/or dance with you. She may even promise sex later.

She may call other women to join in. These other women are scammers too, and their purpose is to put more pressure on men to buy drinks. They may start slowly, with just regular drinks, to get the male customer drunk. Then she will go for the bottle of wine later. She or her friend watches how drunk you are.

The following clubs in Roppongi and Tokyo are well known to have such women scammers in them (will update it from time to time or you can add others too):

. Motown (between Roppongi crossing and TGI Fridays, upstairs)

. Vibration (near Roppongi crossing)

. Copacabana (in between Roppongi crossing and TGI Fridays. Upstairs. Near to club Vibration and Motown)

. Power House (on 3rd floor and near Roppongi crossing)

. Jumanji 55 (Roppongi and near TGI Fridays)

. Tomadachi (name of club in Roppongi)

. Casablanca (Shinjuku Kabukicho area)

There are many other clubs in Roppongi and Tokyo that have such scammers or are running that scam.

Let me check the facts here again:
1. They are on good terms with the staff.
2. They make you happy and ask you to buy drinks.
3. They did not force you to buy.
4. They did not drug you and force you to get drunk.
5. They did not steal from you.

Your so-called "scams" and "tricks" are present in EVERY COUNTRY - they are called "PR girls". They get paid to attract the guys, make them buy drinks and earn commission. That's their job. And its your job to see if the value is worth the money. If not, just set out a deal and get your worth. If you don't have the guts to do it, then buy from Family Mart and drink in your hotel.

I believe this forum promotes paid sex in Tokyo and provide more information about it, but I checked every of your posts, they say nothing in this direction and just outright to condemn the industry and even the Japanese girls.

If you are some kind of anti-prostitution idealist, this forum probably does not need you. FACE off pls, to use a more polite word on you...

A little intense huh? Come on dude, no need to hate on him for his perspective on bar skanks.

@atoyot

I'm against dishonest scams. A hostess bar, clearly makes their intention known that customers are expected to buy drinks.

If you meet a woman in a disco, thinking she is a regular woman, that attempts to scams you into buying $300 dollar champagne, that's plain dishonest.

I'm sure most people here are interested in getting VALUE for their money and not scammed. If a guy pays 4,000 yen (40 dollars) for a blow job, but the club says, "We got your money, you are getting nothing in return.", is that a place to be recommended? No.

It's better for guys to avoid situations where women are looking for drunk guys, pretend to be looking for a boyfriends, then push guys to buy them $300 dollar champagne.

For $300 dollars, that guy could of had sex with 3 women. The women in certain clubs are out to LIE and scam people, so people should be made aware of that.

atoyot: I think you are misunderstanding the intention behind the initial post.
The warnings are not to burn the scene. We all know that these things happen worldwide, in fact, in other countries it's MUCH worse.
Still what Solong was posting is just general information for tourists who are visiting Japan (or plan to).

A guy I know from Australia got done, in Shinjuku.
He was with some other male tourists and had been drinking. They ended up going into another bar that had Africans there. Well, he blacked out for 3 hours.
What he does recall is drinking his drink in that bar before blacking out. Then when he came to, he was outnumbered by 3-4 big African guys and the other guys and girls were gone. They damanded money from him, escorted him to the ATM to take out more cash (luckily his daily withdrawl limit was $800) and took him back to the bar. He was intoxicated and wasn't able to do much on his own.
Anyway, cut the story short, he got away, ok, just short of cash and his credit cards were scammed and blocked.

In another incident, I was with visiting customers from the US. We went bar hopping in Roppongi. I don't usually go to that place as it's not my scene. If I go, it's 1-3 times a year. Usually because of work related customers.

So at a non sleazy bar (I think the bar name is A751), these 3 nice girls came up to us and started chatting, 2 japanese and one south american girl. It was going great, had potential, we were all fired up. Then the girls said that they were going to a club. They invited us of course. Thinking with our dicks, it was plain obvious there will only be the one answer, YES!.

I felt something wasn't right, so I made sure we were walking behind them. Then in an alleyway, there's a cool club I had been to before, next door was another entrance. I checked out the girls and there it was. One of them was speaking to the african at the door and was looking at us. Alarm bells rang and I told the guys, sorry, this isn't our night. Let's go elsewhere.

So as long as you have your street smarts, you'll be fine. Just don't drop your guard because this is Japan. Japan is still one of the safest countries in the world, yet still, you'll need to be on the alert.

Having said that, there are many some good places out there to pick up. However, to increase your chances, Japanese speaking ability is still a must.

Some clubs like Ageha are good, location is inconvenitent.
In Roppongi there's a bar called "Heart land". Can be good, sometimes can be a miss.
That place dies early though (around 11pm-midnight the crowd thins out).

@Onbail

You are correct. And Heartland is located in Roppongi Hills, near the famous large black spider statue and at street level, near the stairs and escalator.

Heartland is a decent club and the club manages don't allow scams, such as women pushing guys to buy $300 dollar champagne. You can go there, and expect a club to be what it's for.

It's good for tourists and guys new to Tokyo or Japan to be aware of some of the scams and tricks. If warned, they can smell a setup and avoid, then continue having a great night.

I think atoyot is way out of line, as described this is clearly a scam and dishonest.

I'd like to think I'd be smart enough to pick up on this, especially if the girls obviously know the staff - but who knows.

I would like to mention, that It's not just the Africans or African managed clubs pulling tricks. Africans just stand out more or people notice them more in Japan, and because some can be aggressive on the street trying to pull people into their club.

Motown, Jumanji 55, and Tomodachi in Roppongi are NOT African managed clubs.

The sneaky traps, are often done by Japanese, Filipina, and Eastern European White women.

They are watching and monitoring how drunk you are. When a guy gets TOO DRUNK, they go for your MONEY. They use the promise or potential of sex as BAIT, to pull guys in.

Suckering guys at bars and clubs has become so popular in Tokyo that even regular office worker Japanese women will try it as a joke or game, to get guys to buy free drinks.

However, the women and clubs I've mentioned are PROs. Running the scam on guys is her JOB and club management ENCOURAGE and PAY these women. They are very, very tricky.

These PROFESSIONAL scamming women in Tokyo will use any club that they can make a "money for customer buying overly expensive drinks" deal with club management.

They prey on foreign tourists in Tokyo and ANY unsuspecting guys, to include Japanese men too.

As someone said, I am probably too harsh on you so I would apologise for that. But the fact remains that this is not a scam.

To me its a given that the red light industry is shadowy, as someone said, being street smart is a prerogative, or at least be with a trusty buddy who is. If not, then learn first before going out there. And when one just throw himself out there for the first time and drink himself silly in the arms of experienced lady clubbers that look 10 times out of his league, then he is really asking for it.

To call these PR girls a scam or dishonest or lying is, to me, way out of line. This is how every part of the industry works in one way or another - i.e. persuasion, emotions, etc. I see this girls as really just trying to show the customer a good time, or a more realistic "cosplay" where they pretend to be a "real" clubber and allow you to "tackle" them and buy them drinks. How much you can buy, how they make you buy more without criminal force, is really a game that the guy is expected to know how to play and know his limits. If they push alittle, going for soft spots, whining alittle, or give you some false hopes, its probably that night sales are a little low or managers are pushing hard, which is no difference from your regular salesmen pushing for a deal close.

As I mentioned, its their job to make you buy more, and its yours to stop yourself if you think there is no value.

Lastly, value is subjective - who is to say $300 is too much to buy a drink for a girl? If I am willing to bed a girl for JPY150,000 a pop, then JPY30,000 for some drinks and prelude flirting in the bar is nothing. The girls are just looking for such guys, if you are not one of them, or if they are not worth, its your prerogative to say no.

This is an outright robbery / extortion which, of course, is criminal and definitely must be condemned and warned against. However the TS' post is nothing like this. He is just talking about girls who come up to you to ask for lady drinks (albeit expensive ones), which happen everywhere in the world.

It sounds to be he expects all girls who works in the night scene for money, directly or indirectly, to carry some kind of warning labels on their foreheads akin on cigarette boxes, so all guys will go in there with their eyes wide open. Otherwise, they are scammers. He probably has forgotten that prostitution is an illegal activities in many places, if not illegal its frown upon by society and there is no way you can hope for a day for a clear and open transaction in this oldest industry of the world.

So as long as you have your street smarts, you'll be fine. Just don't drop your guard because this is Japan. Japan is still one of the safest countries in the world, yet still, you'll need to be on the alert.
This is true, and probably the nice way to say what I meant. You come out on the scene, it must be clear that we are not checking out some 5-star hotels' chains where you can rely on them most of the time and let your guards down.

atoyot, you should really try to think about why you are posting. The OP is warning about women posing as legitimate customers when they are in fact getting secret commissions. Your (hysterical) response is to say that's OK, guys should be alert to women who "pretend to be a "real" clubber" - it's their own fault if they don't know about this.

I can only wonder what your interest is in this.

He is calling them dishonest scams and liars, which I think is, to quote you, way out of line.

My interest is to be fair to the industry that we are all having fun in - if they do not thrive, we cannot have fun.

Criminals aside, nobody is scamming anyone else - its just a game we all should know how to play if we want in.

Atoyot, I am with you on this.

This guy has suddently appeared on this forum ,and in each thread has gone on and on saying how bad everything is, and how good it was in the past.
The point is not whether he is right or not. Roppongi so-called rip-offs are no more no less than those you can get in London (Soho) or Paris (Pigalle.
Fair enough to denounce them, as long as you also emphasies that in most Japanese places, you are not going to be ripped off as often as you are lesewhere. But please avoid the racist anti-Japanese stances.
If you live in Japan, adjust and enjoy what you can. If not, just leave.

I wish that the moderator intervenes and stop what are basically anti-japanese posts, without real worth.

Re: Re: Beware of Roppongi Club Scams

@psd

We are in agreement.

1. I think it's outrageous and very suspicious for anyone to defend women PRETENDING to be legitimate customers, but who are tricking guys and earning secret commissions.

Defending fraud perpetrated on customers is ridiculous.

2. In refrence to a poster comparing these women that are committing fraud to saleswomen....

A legitimate salesman or saleswoman identify themselves. They give you their business card, they tell what company they work for, they clearly identify what products they are selling, and make it clear they want you to buy their product.

Someone disguising who they are, with the intention to cheat people out of money, is often a criminal and is known as a con person or con artist.

Let's consult the dictionary, for those that are confused

http://m.dictionary.com/d/?q=con artist

Con artist

. a person adept at lying, cajolery, or glib self-serving talk.

. a person adept at swindling by means of confidence games; swindler.

3. Trying to censor legitimate information and other people's opinions is plain wrong.

It makes those defending fraud and ripping off customers look even more suspicious.
