I know I was stupid. I wasn't thinking. So please reframe from "you should have been more careful", "you're an idiot." Cuz I already know...

I'm writing this in the hopes that it will help other newcomers to the area.

I walked out of Shinjuku Prince Hotel, right into Kabukicho, the red light district center of Tokyo. Just wanted to take the sights in. Not 5 minutes into my walk, these japanese and black guys walk up to me and start asking me if I want to have sex with a Japanese girl. I walked away from a few, saying I'm just here to look. But this one black guy calls over his Japanese friend ("Yoshi"), and has him guide me around a bit. Which I appreciated. Of course he's trying to sell me a call girl service. He started quoting prices around 40,000 yen for 120 minute soapland experience. But it was higher than my budget for the night, so I politely declined. After walking and talking for a few more minutes, he recommended that I try just a love hotel call girl for 22,000 yen for 70 minutes, + 2,000 yen for lotion play. This happened to be around my budget.

So here's the setup:
He then tells me I got to meet with the shop employee ("Nagashi"), who will show me a list of girls for me to choose from. I can choose up to 3, in case when the girl shows up, she's different than what I expect. After I choose the girl, I have to pay the guy upfront. It was similar to what I've read about some shops where you pay after choosing from a set of pictures. Then, as we're walking to the hotel, he tells me I need to make a 50,000 yen deposit, which I'll get back if I don't go over my time limit. But I didn't have the 50,000 yen. He made a phone call and said 30,000 yen is ok. We got to the hotel and he told me to wait there while he gets the girl. He left, never to show up again.

About an hour and a half later, after looking around everywhere for this guy, I went back to the hotel he told me to wait at. I saw another poor guy, 19 from Hong Kong, who's also "waiting" for the girl to arrive. I told him my story and we went to the police. They ripped him out of 90,000 yen, almost took his passport, too.

The police took a report of our claim, but that was probably futile.

TR;DL - I got scammed 54,000 yen by this Japanese guy who promised a call girl and told me to wait at a hotel.

Please be careful, guys. Especially those new to the area, like me...

sorry to hear about your experience. Shinjuku is notorious for all kinds of shady business.
i only use Shinjuku recently for the good selection of love hotels. girls i find else where.

Touts at Shinjuku are never to be trusted. Its easier to catch their lies if you are well informed. I once put one of those guys to a test and he failed ;). He asked me what I was looking for and I replied a Pink Salon, but since it was late at night 3am more or less, I know that there are none open at such hours. He said that he knew one, and I followed him to see where and once at the door, a person came out asking me to pay...but since he didnt show me inside... I knew it was a scam. Because if they let you see inside, you will immediatly know its not a Pink Salon...and that's when I left the two standing there.

My advice would be to find shops by yourself so if they tell you a lie, at least you can point a location and a face. Rather touts you will never find again.

Indeed. Frankly, I can´t really say I sympathize with you. Even if you had not read all the warnings about the Nigerian scammers in Roppongi and Kabukicho, there are so many points in your story where a red flag should have gone up in your mind, it is a virtual forest of them...

Take it as an expensive reminder to keep your common sense switched on.

.

That's completely unnecessary, but I'm sure you feel so much better for saying it.

I wouldn't expect any other comment from Zaphod. Not only am I taking it as an expensive lesson, I'm hoping other people will as well. From all your replies thus far, Zaphod, you hardly contribute anything to any inquiries here. You are what I would classify as a subtle troll. Please take your condescending attitude out of this forum.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, OP. Japan is usually such a safe country and Tokyo a safe metropolis that it's actually easier to become prey to this type of thing because you're totally off your guard. As an example, I had my wallet stolen in a club because I left my bag unattended - something I'd never dream of doing in London or anywhere else.

At least you aren't out 90k. That poor Chinese guy!

I'm thinking that we should ignore all touts,, due to the fact that many are scammers. One more reason that it's good to read about p4p online so that you can avoid touts altogether by knowing where you want to go.

Is there anything specific reason for your seemingly uncharitable response? I would think at least a little bit of sympathy was warranted even if he did in fact bring this on himself.

Then again, it's always a bad idea to blame the victim. After all, we shouldn't be expected to walk around with avoiding such scams as the primary concern. Or at least not in a healthy neighborhood/society.

I'm not expecting any sympathy whatsoever. I already stated that it was my fault, and posted this to help others. Zaphod's comments were not constructive in any way, just condescending. Something I've noticed in most of his recent replies. More than anything, I don't know what the purpose of his reply was.

Sinfullykorean, I thought your post was very helpful. While I have heard negative things over the years about those touts, your post was a useful reminder that those guys are still trouble.

You don´t need to "avoid all touts". Sometimes you might need them to direct you to a place. But if they start talking about advance payments to *them* on the street, come on. At least that should be the wake-up moment.

Another more charitable way to comment would have been to say "Thank you for being so candid, and helping others" or something along those lines.
Your comment will most probably deter others who have been somehow ripped off to report, fearing that they may be maligned..
Sad.

Yes, it is strange how touchy-feely some people are. I did not intend any attack in my comment, just like I don´t feel affected by the name-calling directed at me. It is just an anonymous internet forum. Strange how different communication styles are. But I´ll try to be more touchy-feely in future.

Could also be a language issue. It comes across as negatively judgemental to some people I think. Again, probably a language issue.

Depends on the person. I kept thinking about this a full day after I read it. If you are a longtime monger and know the Tokyo streets as good as myself for example. One could launch a community idea to intentionaly play with touts and gather enough information to "draw" a map anti-scam for example. We waste "their" time and colaborate "our" times to pin-point all locations people are "taken" to "as" something but that ends-up being something totally different. Just dont pay and report back.

I was thinking that if a tout can get 90k in a day...he might deserve some sort of price/recognision/trophy/medal...wouldnt I be getting both Kitty and Sayuri together for that much?...That would be a fantastic adventure...Y 90.000 is really too much money to hand just like that.... I dont think I have ever paid half that amount for a P4P in my entire life...

I'm a strong believer in introducing two providers to each other via a close encounter of the third kind. If you catch my drift.

Havent seen @kansai-sayuri post for a while, with or without her, I guess it will be my time to show :cat: @kittyotodoke some "sumata", I would definetly be her first at that (y). Surprisingly there is no video to link at youporn...how come? Shall I make my own homemade?

You would indeed be the first! A Japanese ex-boyfriend attempted sumata but I was too eager to get to the main show... :D
