Where Is Good Yakitori?

Does anyone know a good spot for Yakitori in Tokyo? There was an actual Yakitori-Ya in Brasilia that got me absolutely hooked on it, but my inability to read Japanese complicated my search last time I was in Tokyo.

Also, what about Gyoza and/or Katsu? I'm hoping to hit up some good restaurants when I'm back out there.

Any input/guidance is appreciated.
 
Yakitori is everywhere and it's fairly hard to goof that up.

Just look for places that have "やきとり" posted out side or you tell by all of the smoke/smell. Personally, I love some of the small stalls around Ueno or Shimbashi station. Usually after work, tons of guys (and some girls) are piled around having Yakitori and beer.

Gyoza... never really looked for a Gyoza place, but they are around. Will check around to see if there is one good area over another.

Katsu - which kind, pork or chicken? I don't know any Chicken, but plenty of pork.

There's a fabulous Tonkatsu place in Kabukicho and there are others scattered around Tokyo... some chains some not.

Thanks this is useful info. I can't wait to get back there and get a hold of some of that. I don't know why ( I'm assuming its the sauce) but Yakitori is one of my favorite meat dishes, second only to Ethiopian Lamb stew.
 
Try the area under the Yamanote line nearest to Yurakucho station- (take the exit facing Ginza and turn right). it's famous for its high concentration of yakitori-ya, and the streets near the area turn into a nightly beer garden of sorts, with seating on stools and upturned beer bottle crates.

Funny, I was just about to mention the exact same area

Underneath the JR Line trax between Yurakucho and Shimbashi r 2 cosmic joints, near an excellent German beerhall called Baden Baden

For gyoza, go to Kamata near Haneda. its where we had the 1st Mongerz Nite Out

If your looking for a yakitori that's a little more formal like a sit down and a little more pricey, there's a place called jomon roppongi in roppongi hills. Place is worth in my opinion. Great atmosphere, service, and the yakitori there is done very well

I would also highly recommend Jomon in Roppongi. Great choice of meat, veggies, etc. cooked on an open grill. The grilled avacado is one of my faves. Perhaps not traditional yakitori but very tasty. Reservations would be recommended too, especially for larger groups.

IIRC there's 2 or 3 Gyoza places very close to each other near Ebisu Station. I only went to one of them, but they are pretty decent.

What about a quality burger and pizza? Is that asking too much in Tokyo? I got a pizza in Fukoka that had shrimp on it (without being informed of it) and never ordered one again in Japan.
 
Devil Craft (Kanda) has amazing Chicago Style pizza. They have another shop in Hamamatsucho, but I'm not sure what their 'za is like there. The Taproom in Nakameguro has pretty decent pizza. Both places are....not cheap, but good pizza and great beer.

Tori-Kizoku for Yakitori
They have many shops in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. Really good price. Not a luxe restaurant, but I think it's a good deal.
I don't think they have English website. If you tell me where in Tokyo are you going to stay, maybe I can help you with a little info.

I love Yakiroti, too. Actually I always have some Yakitori before my night fun lol 'cuz an fetish femdom escort girl I like and call many times told me Chicken helps your feminine hormones. So maybe I can have more fetish pleasure lol Of course it's just a joke, I guess.

I wish you were in Osaka. Osaka has lots of good food, especially Kushi-Katsu in Daruma and Kushuya you can eat as much as you want.

There's some okay Mexican food about. There's a few mission-style burrito places (i.e., like Chipotle) called Frijoles in 3-4 places. There used to be a cheaper/better place called Libre near Ebisu station, but I think it's closed now. They used to have a standard American-sized burrito for under ¥1000, which is a steal. Most of the other Mexican food I've had there is merely okay. There's an El Torito near Shinjuku Station, which is a US Mexican food chain. Basically the California-style Chili's. I ate there once in Japan and once in California, and I don't highly recommend it in either place.

Totally off the deep end but there is a giant strip mall- like area in the Benito Juarez neighborhood of Mexico City that has a couple or so restaurants each for the cuisine of every part of Mexico, plus some Guatemalan and Nicaraguan fare.

Regarding Pizza, depending how long you've lived in Tokyo, you may or may not know about a little gem just outside of Oji station.
It's out of the way for anyone who doesn't live in North/Northeast Tokyo, but if you're ever passing through, give Rocco's New York Pizza a try.

They sell by the slice and their large pizza is what you would expect a large size to look like. (but attached to a Japan price, sadly.)

for yakitori: abechan in jyuban, cheap, and awesome, eat in or take out, you will see a lot of celebs in there as well
Pizza: pizza strada hands down best pizza, savoy is a distant 2nd but still good.
burger: kona cafe behind jingu stadium, not cheap but very good burger.
