I'm the OP. Just wanted to thank everyone for their thoughtful responses here and at other threads.

I met a lovely lady in her twenties. We met for drinks, and she is charming and beautiful! Had a great time! I will meet her again as time/ money allows.

SA, as others have said, works!!!!

But it requires a lot of patience. Perseverance and thinking about what you want.

I'm looking forward to using it more in the future!

Glad things are going well for you! It requires all you said, plus some disposable income ;), but in the end I think it's totally worth the effort.

Agreed . Not sure I will go on meeting escorts (except maybe 1 or 2 favorites).. the quality and time/cost ratio on SA is much better than what I anticipated

Agreed. I'm mostly limiting myself to sugaring except when traveling. One, because I'm not sure I want to put in the effort to try to develop a sugar arrangement when I'm only going to be there for a few days/weeks. Two, outside sex work friendly countries like Japan I still need to maintain fairly recent references with escorts or start all over as a "newbie" again in future which seriously limits your options.

Other than that though I much prefer time with my SB. Just got home from a great evening with her actually :happy:

I'm glad you found a good SB. However, to sound a small note of caution, just as you were over reacting in a negative way to some initial/early problems, you may also be over reacting in a positive sense to a first success or two. Generalizations along the lines of SA/sugaring better or worse than conventional p4p depend on many things of course, but in any case, they take *significant* numbers of experiences, good and bad, to be well-founded.

Do you need to cancel Seeking Arrangement when your membership runs out? Or does it just end if you don't renew?

I'm concerned about if there is automatic renewal or not, and if I need to cancel,

Or simply let it run out.

I hate to be "that guy" but this is something that you really should be able to find out for yourself. https://www.seekingarrangement.com/help/ All your answers are either right there or a link at the bottom to contact them and ask them.

I thought it would be a quick and easy answer for one of the veterans. And as I suspected, I couldn't find the answer easily at SA.

I'm not sure why you couldn't easily find the answer. The page I linked has the following section:

Second to last question tells you that your account won't renew automatically as they don't offer recurring billing at all. Obviously, your profile won't go away. You will just be on a free account. If you want to remove your profile details for that are also on the page.

Right after your premium membership expires, you will probably get a burst of views, favorites and messages from SBs at a much higher than normal rate. This happens (I assume) because the put your profile on the featured splash pages when SBs in your area logon and perhaps give your profile some sort of priority in SB searches that pull it up. They do this to encourage you to renew your premium membership since you can't pursue any of these contacts without renewing.

You can avoid this by hiding your profile so no SB sees it. It isn't deleted, and you can reveal it again later.

Before you ask, I don't recall how you do this, but I have helped SBs do it a couple of times, and it wasn't hard to figure out.

Entry level question, in Tokyo, what would experts guess is the ethnic/nationality of SBs on SA - eg are we talking 20% JPN, 20% Chinese, 40% Caucasian etc

That's how I play it for now. It looks like you don't get the type of "we want you back" special offers anyway , so better to wait until you want to meet new persons .

As for the mix, for the ones who contacted me at least , it was about 70% Caucasian 20% Japanese 10% other Asians

It is the cheapest way to do it, but as in many other things, that is not necessarily the best. I used to do exactly what you say, also because in the early days there were so few SBs on SA in Tokyo that I could meet all the active ones that interested me in a month or two, and then take a break to wait for some new ones to sign up.

These days I keep my premium membership open pretty much continuously because my experience is that there are occasional real gems in terms of being much more interesting to and interested in me than the majority of the SBs, and I don't want to miss them if I can avoid it. Quite often they don't stay available on the site for very long.

As for the mix of nationalities, it was originally almost eclusively Americans, Brits and Canadians. Then Australians and a mix of Europeans began to appear, followed by an increasing number of Japanese and then other Asians living in Japan...FIlipinas, Chinese and S Koreans being the most common. That's my personal anecdotal impression, but I haven't kept track well enough to put numbers on it.

I also keep my membership open and have a saved search to browse the newest members. I'm perfectly happy with the sugar arrangements I have at present but some of them are already time limited due to school, work, or other personal reasons of the girl. Seems easiest just to constantly check out the new joins and get to know them so that when the time comes I can move fairly seamlessly into a new relationship.

I don't know about the mix of nationalities on SA in Japan but I do have an interesting anecdote on looking to line up a few dates for my return to Tokyo in September. The first contact I made turned out to be a girl who had spent a year on student exchange at the university in the town I currently live ironically. Was ridiculously easy to set up that meet.

My impression is that quite a substantial fraction of the foreign SBs in Japan are young women who do not sugar back in their home countries and who are in Japan for a pre-determined limited time, i.e., not aiming to make a life in Japan. They are students or English teachers or on 1-year "working holiday" visas or doing an internship with some (often big international) company.

It is easy to see why sugaring is relatively more attractive for them in such circumstances. They typically need money more in expensive Tokyo; they want to "make good use" of their time by enjoying as many of the experiences the city offers as possible; they don't have to worry about long-term entanglements with Tokyo-based SDs because they are leaving after some set time; there is a much smaller chance of their families or long-term friends finding out; etc.

From an SD's perspective, this means that a lot of otherwise very good and "successful" sugar arrangements end up being fairly short-live. Your SB returns to her home country or in any case leaves Japan all too soon (especially since one doesn't usually meet them when they first arrive).

This is another reason that I find it useful to keep my premium membership open all of the time.

I have received many messages after posting my profile. But they say I need 'upgrade' to read those messages.
The thing is that some of messages are from countries that are far from where I live (for example, Eastern Europe and South Eastern Asia).
Are they all genuine messages? Or gimmicks to make me upgrade?

If you are asking if they are the kind of "fake profile" crap the many dating sites pull (they all have fancy names for them and put them in terms and conditions but who reads those) then probably not. I have never had any indication that SA resorts to that sort of trickery. Not in the US as least.

If you are asking if they are scammers, well, maybe. I get a several messages from people far away who want "online only" arrangements. Some of those are real. Others just want to trick you into sending money and might at best send you some pics of girls you could find on google. Personally I have no interest in an online only arrangement and will not provide money or gifts to anyone until we meet in person.

As you said, those messages from countries far away must be from would-be scammers.
However, I have received a few messages from where I live and from those that I sent messages to.

I think I need an upgrade to read those 'genuine' messages. Is there any other way to read messages without an upgrade?
