HND vs NRT

Finally...in terms of the food, I didn't see the many options... maybe its in the areas near the security checks and not near the gates...

I found Blue Sky Miso Kitchen by Gate 91 in Narita T2 surprisingly good, not excellent of course, but enough to happily have pre-flight beer and snacks. Prolly this is an exception.

Oh. Now I know. Not sure how it is now, but for a long time the International terminal at Haneda was separated from the Domestic and it was in a crappy temporary building with very little shopping or restaurants. I think it is integrated with the domestic terminals now.
All the good restaurants at Haneda are ground side, once you get air side there is next to nothing, just some generic duty free shops and a couple of crappy bars.

Nah! It’s still a separate terminal. But has its own Keikyu and monorail stop.
The hotel there is quite good also if you have an eArly departure.

I’ve been at both HND and NRT today for work.

I’m not a big bus fan. I’d much rather take a train to the airport.
Always use black cat when returning.

I’m glad they took at the train to the satellite at NRT t2.
Moving walkways are way better.

Few vinos in the lounge then straight on the plane. Awesome!

There is always a huge line of tourists buying tickets for the narita express on the airport and its the most expensive one.

I always take the skyliner or even the slow train if i have time, even though i have to change train.

Also changing train and shorter travel time wins it with me over not changing and longer time, but i dont have much opportunity tto use haneda

yes, this is what I was thinking about. but even in the terminal before the security, there's not much choice for anything.

NRT has a lot of food and shopping before the security check and plenty of shopping after immigration. The food is mixed, but enough variety even if it's spread out in the terminal.

That said, I should state that I usually exclusively fly out of Terminal 1 at NRT... i rarely use T2 for anything.

There is a Bic Camera Air shop when you arrive in HND which is very convenient to buy simcards.

Hmm so I'm having a similar dilemma for a planned flight next week.

Fly in to HND (with short stopover), arrive early morning- feeling tired for the whole day, plus an extra 20usd in airfare.
Or...
Fly in to NRT, arrive early evening, spend ~3k on transport to town, and pay an extra 1 night hotel.

Only problem with the NRT flight is that it it leaves very early 9am. Sorry, I am not using my alarm when on holidays. :rage:

So my plan is to just book both flights, and take whichever flight, depending on what time I wake up. Then get a refund for the other.

Why is nobody using IBR o_O ?

HND has no Starbucks at the international Terminal and no Calpis on sale after the security checks (but Tenga instead). There is a direct flight from my home airport though, so I don't see any reason to use NRT.

How bad is the waiting time at immigration at NRT now? Two years ago, when the tourist boom started it was apparently very long... similar to Kansai Airport.

Since the Skyliner exists the field is more even now in terms of transporation time, but I still prefer the feel of Haneda International (more modern, better lounges etc)

The airlines are going through another round of discounts where you can go there in April for around $499 USD. The flight/price combo I want isn't available until April 17th, in which I will probably miss Sakura....
Yeah I always assumed that flights around that time would be expensive, and as I've never been to Japan during spring, that $500 would be a bargain that's REALLY hard to pass on. Even though I've just visited this past summer, I might actually have to look into this more...

I really, really have to disagree here. For the times I've used Haneda to depart internationally, I found the shopping and food options to be severely lacking. (Lounge is good, though...) But, Narita, I think has a much wider selection of shopping and food options both before and after security/immigration.
Really? Though the shopping in Haneda isn't as abundant, I feel there's a wide enough selection there. Food wise it seems more than comparable with Narita, perhaps even better when it comes to selection. Then again, it's been many years since I've stepped into Narita airport so my memory of it is rather foggy at best.

Japanese queue and foreign queue can get quite long.
Re entry queue is always short, but I use the auto gate system. All you need to do is register before you check in and it is good for 5 years I think.
Takes about a minute to get through immigration.

Narita is awesome of getting off the plane, getting thru immigration , then customs.
Last time I arrived at 820 am and was on the skylines before 9.

Narita is usually quick to get through customs. I've never had any issues so I like it. Departing is pretty easy too. Only complaint I have is that last time the cute security girl tricked me into walking through the metal detector with my belt on, frisked me and then DIDN'T give me her number :D

Indeed, that's borderline insulting. I hope you sent a complain letter to the head of Narita Airport Authority.

Yes, i usually calculate only 30 minutes from plane landing time to getting out of customs time for when i come back or have to pick someone up.

Well, needless to say I felt totally used as a victim of her obvious sexual deviance. So i did what any sane man would do - take a sedative and get wasted on the flight home. :ROFLMAO:

This is ANOTHER good reason to take Singapore Air LAX to NRT, is because the flight continues on to Singapore, so only like 1/3 of the people get off the plane in Tokyo, and the line through immigration isn't so bad.
