Well, more advanced countries have colonized less advanced countries. In most cases it was beneficial to the less advanced country i.e. transfer of technology, adoption of another language, and increased trade. But there is a downside, wherein the locals would be treated just a step above slaves.

Any examples?

Hmm... The spanish colonization of the philippines. And the dutch colonization of indonesia.

Even if you're evidence is true - more technology, more trade and adoption of a global language - it's unclear whether colonization was a net positive.

Btw, can you think of a large Asian island country that has never been colonized, and is quite successful today?

I told think that “more advanced” countries ripping all the valuable products out of the grounds in foreign countries helped them advance.

And except for treating the countries real folk like second rank citizens, they’ve caused countless wars and genocides by deciding country borders by themselves and pitting different groups of people in the countries against each other.

Just to clarify, not in all cases. More likely it benefited a select few in the colonized country

I agree

No, i can't think of any. Even singapore used to be a colony of britain

Not only things like gold and silver. But unfortunately, the people themselves were "exported" as slave labor.

@DocMcStuffins and @User#8628 , i'm not condoning the colonizers. but i'm not exactly against them either. Maybe what I'm trying to say is it could have been worse (like what happened to the native americans in the US). look, i'm no expert about the history of the philippines, but from what i have read they were mostly farmers and fishermen with a lot of tribal warfare (they also had a caste system back then) thrown in before the spaniards came. more or less, made things more systematic.
Yes there were massive trade-offs, like losing their own system of writing and most of their history before the spaniards came (the spaniards burned a lot of books back then).
Just to reiterate, I'm no expert with the subject herein and I don't completely condone the colonizers...

let us just say that I know how it feels to be an outcast. that even if you have best possible qualifications, and you are of the "wrong" color and from the "wrong" country, people will not treat you as an equal.

Well, at least mars doesn’t seem to have a population and i think we may need it if something happens to the earth.

I think Mars will just be our playground. Not only our planet but the entire solar system will eventually have fatal threats (sun running out of fuel if not the solar system is disintegrated by a neutron star) targeted against it. We need to find some other solar system and habitable planets. God thinking about this makes me so excited, I want to be there when it's happening!

Fair enough. Btw, Japan was the example I was thinking of.

I’d rather not be there when the sun runs out.. lol

For the sake of my offspring, i do hope mankind can move to somewhere safe and uninhibited.

Lifeforce

I always mentally file that one with horror. It's a cheesy flick, but it's still fun. And Mathilda May is stunning, even now.

I agree. For the time well made.

2001 boring. tried to watch it about 5 time.but i died from boredom about 10min into the flick

Ok so, i’m so happy i gave the newer Blade Runner a chance.

The old one bored me so much, but i decided to watch the recent one anyways and it was great. But thanks to that movie i can listen to “i can’t help falling in love with you” without crying a little.

Glad you like the film. I prefer the old one, but both have their ups and downs.

I rented the new one on DVD and I couldn't believe I had to sit through 2 and a half hours of that. The concept is good and the style is great, but would it bother the director to add in just a little more
action or suspense?
