Russia 2018

You forgot to mention France 2 - Australia 1.
Not that I'm rooting for France, but they didn't really seem like a dominant squad compared to the Zidane days.

Agreed , they played like school boys and were just very lucky. Hope they will improve fast.

Brazil 1 - Switzerland 1
Mexico 1 - Germany 0
Interesting start!

I thought Iceland was quite amazing too.

More like Germany had less star power compared to previous squads. They depended on Klose for way too long.

That isn't the problem a dare to say. Mexico is quite a capable team. Germany won 2014 despite having the worst coach in the world. Now he sabotaged the team enough with some ridiculous decisions.

As for highlights so far ... Usually games like Spain Vs Portugal are dead boring, but damn was that a game!

Japan 2 - 1 Columbia

Wow!

For sure a surprising result, but not so much anymore if you know that Colombia got a red card and a penalty against them in minute 3 or so.

If you add Senegal beating Poland the group is really wide open. Japan making the next round has become quite possible.

Of course I know that. I was watching the game.
The reason it's still amazing is that Japan has failed when having that advantage before. (2014 vs. Greece)
Besides, almost no one was expecting Japan to pull off this upset given how high Columbia is ranked above Japan.

Japan has good history vs. Poland and African teams (maybe not Senegal), so they now have a great shot
to get to the final 16.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the official mascot is apparently a wolf.

It kinda looks like a dog to me, but, hey, a wolf is cooler, I suppose. And, a bear might have been just too cliche.

it was couple's day in 9259 so it was a great deal : 4000 yen including nomihodai until morning. it would have been worth it even if I hadn't had any action.

Amazing! But How can they be profitable ?

Well, Germany just had a bad game against KOREA of all nations and is out of the tournament. How long has it been since they couldn't get past the first stage?

The team looked like a bunch of school boys that still need another 4 years to become a good team. Don't see Germany having the No.1 FIFA ranking for long, either.

My country (The Netherlands) didn't even qualify! It's actually very embarrassing, because we have many famous football players. Whenever I introduce myself and tell people where I'm from the subject usually changes to football :p

To be honest I don't really care who wins I didn't watch a single match :D

Well, happened to Italy too (and I must admit, I am quite pleased about it! :)).
(But you’re on the right forum, if you’re from Amsterdam people here will be more interested to discuss with you about prostitution)

So far, it's been the tournament of the underdogs. Most everyone expected (or wanted) Argentina, Portugal, and Spain to advance, but they're all out in the first round. Would not be surprised at all if Mexico beats Brazil and Japan beats Belgium tonight.

I would also call it the tournament of rough play and overacting to try and receive foul calls/penalty kicks. Neymar was a buffoon for taking an obvious dive and then having the penalty call revered after VAR review. There's so much grabbing, kicking, and pushing going on now in the matches that I sometimes think I'm watching American football, not traditional football.
