I'm a relatively old hand, but not been in Tokyo for ages (based in Nagoya). I'm coming out for the Dave Chappelle show on Monday, and am looking at basically a 3 meal turn-around in Tokyo, breakfast, lunch, dinner. Looking for recommendations that aren't Japanese food (I don't want stuff I can get in Nagoya easily anyway). I'm pretty sure I am going to Devil's Craft for an early dinner (I usually make my own deep dish pizza, so curious how "pros" do it here), but can't decide on breakfast (maybe Ivy Place?) and lunch (maybe Chiles or Frijoles?). Suggestions?

Chiles in Harajuku is good for lunch.

Hacienda Del Cielo is really good if you want to try it.

Breakfast in Japan... I don’t even try because I’m so used to a western style. When someone cooks a Japanese breakfast for me, it’s like eating dinner at 8am.

That said... if I eat breakfast... it’s usually my own cooking at home. The major hotels seem to have good breakfast buffets from time to time.

I would second TAG Manager and give up on breakfast. But I did have a really good no fuss, no BS eggs benedict at a place called Oslo Cafe some days ago. There are a few around town. One in Ginza. Lunch. Assuming you got good burgers in Nagoya by now, maybe I would go for what is probably the best Neopolitan pizza in Tokyo at Il Tambarilo. Kind of inconvenient but truly great pizza. You probably have dozens of wood fired pizza joints in Nagoya, but you dont have any like this place. For dinner, as we are excluding Japanese food, I dont know. Devil Craft is great. They are brewing their own beer now too, so along with a good menu of other mostly US craft, they have some good locally brewed beers. The problem is you had pizza for lunch. Where is the best Mexican place these days? I used to go to LaJolla in Hiroo back in the day, but I assume that is gone.

Sukiya doesn't have their Bacon and Asparagus tamakake gohan anymore. Fuck this life. And the replacement can only be ordered from 9am too.

How is it? Any better place for Mexican in Tokyo these days?
Chiles that I linked above. Guzman y Gomez also has a good reputation, the Tex Mex Factory in Shibuya is also OK. There’s also a place on the 4th floor of Atre in Shinagawa.

Yeah sadly most of the places that serve a pretty nice breakfast don't open until 10 or 11 so it's like...
... That's brunch.

PERSONALLY I don't mind the Denny's/Gust breakfasts, I mean it's just a nice toast and egg, or they used to have a croque madam (apparently they do not do that anymore so I am sad) so it's just your basic fare and depending on where you are some places open as early as 6am.

Eggcallent in Roppongi/Omotesando is also a choice, they open at like 7:30? 8:00? Around there so pretty early, they'e a little "Healthy hipster" but you can get a solid eggs benny there.
Ivy Palace opens early and it's... eeehhh? I mean I like anyplace that has mint tea so my bar is pretty low but it's also one of the few places you can get chorizo sausage.
World Allday Breakfast is really good but I think their shops don't open until 9 or 10 at the earliest so it's cutting the line of breakfast, but they have an American style breakfast and then I think two different breakfast plates from various countries that swaps out every month or so.

Frijoles in Azabujuban does a pretty damn solid burrito that's super fat.
Lots of people recommend the tex mex factory and I mean it's okay but it has a very "College student I need to eat as much as I can during the ¥1000 lunch because I might not eat again today" vibe which I mean if that's what you want, it's great. (No dissing because sometimes that's exactly what you want)
There was this food truck I found at the Coffee Festa last year that had AMAZING little soft taco's, like legit salsa verde and nice pulled pork just perfect, but they only open for festivals and never post where they're going to be so finding them is like catching a unicorn in the wild. You just gotta hope and keep your eyes open.

Yeah... great example: Good Morning Cafe doesn't open until 11:00.... (well, except on weekends...)

Just shows your sleeping patterns are wrong; for some of us that is an early morning. :D

Before 8:00 that it would be Shitty Morning Cafe and nobody wants to name their shop like that.

Thanks a ton everyone for the suggestions, and thank you DanniCake for your profile picture particularly (meow!).
