Daily WHO Reports for the Coronavirus Outbreak (Link)

What's wrong with Taro Aso? He's the only one who called out the WHO?

Those assholes sent 1,000 ventilators (no idea if they actually work) to NYC and tried to make a big deal out of it. The city is on fire right now and they need refrigerated storage containers outside the hospitals for all the dead bodies because China sent half of fucking Wuhan there on vacation and they think they can buy their way out of it with a bunch of cheap, shitty Huawei ventilators. If every nuclear capable country on earth simultaneously launched warheads aimed at coordinated cities all across China, Xi and his government wouldn't have time to think or respond effectively and couldn't possibly hit us all back before The Middle Kingdom turned into plate glass. They couldn't get us all. Probably whack L.A. and NYC but by that time the virus might turn those cities into ghost towns, anyway. I'll be high up in the Rockies, safe and intoxicated. Small price to pay for never having another global pandemic. And MECGA...Make the Electoral College Great Again.

If your great president wouldn't have been so fucking busy doing absolutely nothing, you wouldn't have to cry all the time now. Certainly he wasn't the only one, but certainly among the last ones to get the message.
If you put 1k ventilators in relation to what NY had available, it may also not sound so little anymore. It's not like the market for those device is millions large

Well, the overall mortality rates in Europe are lower than normally so we should probably thanks the Chinese for that.

Though there are already some information coming from Italy that the cure is worse than the disease as people are starting to run out of money and therefore food because of the lock downs of all the businesses.

I'm not praising Trump's response--or any political leader's response--to this current situation but you really should try harder not to blindly parrot the talking points from biased journalists and media outlets who spend their days consumed with Trump Derangement Syndrome and trying to shit on this president (and no, I didn't vote for him, nor do I like him) because you come off sounding like a China apologist. I suppose we could have different interpretations of "doing absolutely nothing" but the reality is that credible warnings only popped up on the radar here stateside around the first week of January. Sure, Trump could've immediately shut down all travel and trade with a global superpower based on the very first reports of potential danger--and after living through SARS in Japan I would've had no problem with that--but if you think that's politically or economically feasible or something even a banana republic president would consider then you don't have much of a grasp on geopolitical realities.

Three weeks after those initial reports, Trump made the decision on 1/31 to ban all travel from China. Do you recall how your favored media outlets reacted? CNN, MSNBC, basically all media outlets and talking heads, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden and the entire DNC began howling that this "outrageous" decision was "racist," and "xenophobic" and went "too far" and you even had Nancy Pelosi calling upon people to go out in San Francisco and shop and congregate in public and act normally, and AOC demanding that people keep patronizing Chinese restaurants in NYC. Same howling and wailing and protesting came when the Europe-ban followed shortly thereafter.

But now two months later, when those very cities are consumed by this plague, the China-ban and Europe-ban were apparently not enough and Trump did "absolutely nothing." In one fun instance, the same jackass MSNBC reporter (Chuck Todd) who previously claimed that the China travel ban was racist and extremist and unjustifiable and unnecessary is now claiming that Trump has "blood on his hands" for "doing nothing."

I spent a decade of my life in state and national (Washington) level politics and campaigning. I'm still tied into it. I get how spin and bullshit messaging strategy works, especially in an election year--it was my job to create and peddle that bullshit. But it's one thing to peddle bullshit, and a completely different thing to start believing it. Since most of us have quite a bit of free time nowadays, perhaps once a day, just take a moment to sit back, unplug from all the bullshit media politicization and fear-mongering and hysteria and think for yourself. Otherwise, you buy into the bullshit narratives that people like me get paid to create, and that makes you a tool. You don't want to be a tool.

The situation wouldn't be different if it was Trump or Biden or any other politician. The c-19 problem globally is simply a fundamental lack of preparation. We have had 5 pandemics since 2002. Will we learn anything from this one? When is the next one coming?

The sad truth is, probably not. And sadder yet, so long as China exists there will always be another pandemic coming. And so long as geopolitics exists and our economic fortunes are tied to China, we won't respond to the next one much better than we did to this one. I'd like to think that Fauci is right--that Americans will have learned how to discipline themselves for the next virus, or the return outbreak he's predicting for the coming fall months, until we get the vaccine for this one. But when you turn on the tv and see hordes of idiot fucking college kids and millennials out partying at douchebag social events and beaches and clubs and illegally-operating bars...maybe that generation deserves to get wiped out.

Its not that generation who will get wiped out. Its the boomers and older. Now you could revert the argument... devil’s advocate style: what did they do to deserve to live so old?

This is the first one we're wrecking the economy for. Probably because this is the first one that disproportionately kills the people that control said economy.

Lets see the positives: for instance everybody try to social-distance now, not just with us bad gaijins!

I will not go through your whole post. I'm no American, so I have no real reason to watch your news outlets. I care relatively little, who your president is either. Admittedly Trump has been a bit entertaining in the beginning, but things grew old and boring pretty fast. If anything, however I feel a little bit sorry for you guys probably getting a choice between Trump and either Bernie or Boden.

I have relatively little sympathy for China, but this talk all the time ... they have to pay for this .... Did the US write any checks for victims of H1N1 in 2009? They wont pay for it and you are pretty well aware of it.

Whether it would have been possible or not to stop the virus from spreading in the US is speculation, but there was plenty of time to prepare, like have a test infrastructure, do a better job at tracking people, beginning a bit earlier with planning for a pandemic bound to happen or maybe just start with actually putting someone in charge, maybe as early as January?

Instead the Donald talked it down for 2.5month or even blamed it as fake news. Consequently a large part of his following didn't take it serious either.

If you believe that he is competently managing the situation, let's just agree that we have differing opinions here;)

by this yardstick Abe is the worse then...

I would not like to be a country’s leader nowadays... you do too much too soon and people will complain about economic losses , you do too little too late they say you’re incompetent and put too many lives at risk

the problem with Trump imo is not so much the timing of his actions , its the constant flip-flopping and being so obsessed about the medias, ratings, governors being « nice » to him, narcissistic shit like that

I don't necessarily disagree with your statement about Abe. I don't think he has been flawless. But at least he isn't running a disinformation campaign at the scale of Trump;)

I'm not doubting the veracity of that story because virtually every disastrous event that's ever happened in America is inevitably followed by some "expose" story about all this supposed intel leading up to it, and then the opposition party of whoever the current president is inevitably tries to make a political shitstorm out of it with howls of "HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!" But not only is the wording of that piece obviously biased, the key interview is done by none other than Clinton Family insider and former Clinton WH Press Secretary, George Stephanapoulos. He's about as objective and credible as Karl Rove. The facts may be facts, but what they story is attempting to do is old, tired, amateur POLISCI100-level tactics.

This is no different than the attempted expose stories that began circulating in late-2002 and early-2003, that GWB had received "numerous" intelligence reports detailing all these Arabs going to flight school and being internet jihadis and yada, yada, yada...I mean, who wouldn't have immediately deduced from that, that these assholes were going to hijack three planes using box cutters and crash them into the WTC and then both towers were going to collapse an hour later and kill 3,000 people? Every network (except Fox) was shrieking about it 24/7 throughout the entire year before the 2004 election...and then GWB was handily re-elected.

You know what Americans don't do, no matter what party the current POTUS belongs to? They don't change presidents in the middle of a crisis--not unless forced to. We didn't with Roosevelt in WWII, we wouldn't have with Nixon in Vietnam if he hadn't fucked up Watergate and then quit, and if it wasn't for Oswald, JFK could've killed kittens and masturbated on subways and the missile crisis (which he handled masterfully) would've guaranteed him a second term. As we phrase it in talking points, "You don't change quarterback at halftime." And since the presumptive nominee is now officially Joe Biden--who will probably not remember his first name by the end of summer--I hope you enjoy watching Trump's blowhard press conferences because you've got five more years of them coming up.

i agree with you, those conferences are fun
But the point is ... do you want a leader who is « fun »? Is that the number 1 criteria now in the US (and not just the US btw) ... to put a good comedic show? Being a clown, a buffoon, a constant source and target of mockery...

If so then why not but maybe he should be Emperor or King then. Japan or UK style, ie powerless.

All the rest of the world would sleep better and enjoy the show even more :)

I actually don't mind Biden. Before he was obviously losing his marbles, I had him pegged as the only Democrat who could beat Trump because he's basically the same kind of character--an affable asshole, charismatic schoolyard bully who likes to fight. And while it would be quite entertaining to now watch his demented press conferences, where he's known to cycle through themes going from sexist, to racist, to just generally offensive and then he ends up forgetting what his main point was to begin with (he's like our own Prince Philip), actually having a SENILE president probably wouldn't be funny for very long. There's a reason Obama personally tried to stop him from running and has thus far refused to endorse him.

Add to that the fact that it appears he's going to choose Kamala Harris as his running mate, for fuck's sake...I'd rather have four terms of Hillary than that awful bitch. But that's precisely why Trump is getting a second term. Harris is such an intolerable twat that her own father--a Stanford professor of Economics--wants nothing to do with her and has said so, publicly. And with her shameful record as black prosecutor famous for throwing blacks in prison for non-violent offenses, you can just call it a night now.

It's just like with Hillary. Democrats can bitch and piss and whine all they want, but they had three fucking years to come up with a good candidate and this is where we are. I just hope he brings Ivanka the next time he's in town. My friend got to meet her and agrees she is fucking HOT in person.

Its ok J4F, The US are still a young nation...
You guys need to get used having crazies as heads of state too.
Look at the Roman Empire, or even France for that matter. More Caligulas, Neros, Charles VI (authentic madman this one, he had to be locked in his room even while King) , Napoleons etc than reasonable / smart guys :)

wikipedia extract on Charles VI:

Periods of mental illness continued throughout the king's life. During one in 1393, he could not remember his name and did not know he was king. When his wife came to visit, he asked his servants who she was and ordered them to take care of what she required so that she would leave him alone. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You are way too optimistic regarding Trump and Corona. Just because he didn't get it yet, doesn't mean that he won't get it at all. Same as the other guys in the race;)

Well, I do know for a fact that Trump is an extreme, EXTREME germophobe. He requires an aide to be with him at all times carrying hand sanitizer and also hand lotion, so that his hands don't go dry from constant sanitizing. This is not a joke. At the same time, Joe Biden is well-known to love hugging, kissing and sniffing people he comes in contact with, particularly younger females. Again, no joke. With that in mind, structure your odds as you will.

As much as I dislike Trump personally, and as far as I went along with the national establishment GOP effort to stop him from getting the nomination back in 2016, I'm becoming more convinced that he's exactly the asshole we needed to get through the post-Obama and current times. Of course, that could be the generic French Costco vodka talking.

If that's the case, I should just fucking run for President.
