Are there any PC shops in Tokyo that sell American-made gaming laptops?

I heard in Bic cameras they sell Xbox, it's American and can do gaming. And cheaper than a computer!

But not as versatile as one. ;)
I have an Xbone and like it better than the PS4, but looking for something cheap that can handle Premiere, After Effects, Lightroom & Photoshop in addition to Skyrim.

I got an Alienware laptop from Dell Japan a bit over 5 years back. They had the best customization options overall, and weren't excessively over priced.

Alternatively, Mouse Computer has built-to-order laptops, and were on par with DELL overall, but didn't have an English keyboard at the time, so I went with DELL because the moji key placement enrages me. I don't know if Mouse is still good, I haven't looked at them in ages. I bought a used one from SofMap like 10 years ago and it was pretty decent anyway.

But really, just order one from Ebay and have it shipped. I got an Asus ROG Strix for a friend early last year, and the laptop + shipping + exchange rates + tax was still cheaper than getting the equivalent in Japan. Probably even more now because the exchange rate is even better when you're buying in USD. Probably comes faster, too. I had to wait like 2 months for my Dell before.

Thank you for your message. I might just order a gaming laptop from Ebay sometime next year and just have it shipped here to Japan.

Good day all. I know this is a pinch old but it seemed better to write here than start a whole new thread.

I just recently got a new mechanical keyboard from a member here (Thank you again sir) but I know that my PC needs to be upgraded. I just added a Radeon RX-560 from TSUKUMO but it was used and I am smart enough to at least figure out to install that. That's my limit on PC upgrades. I know I need an upgraded motherboard but my knowledge is a pinch less than zero. I could go back to them and ask for their advice but sales people tend to try and get rid of what they a lot of in stock. I am ok with used. Anyone with knowledge about this kinda stuff and cares to add some input I'd be eternally grateful. I'm just looking to be able to play RDR2 which at the moment I don't believe I can do as many newer games need a better MB.

As I mentioned above, I did add the Rx-560 4G

Thanks

Do you really need a motherboard upgrade? In general, You don’t need to upgrade your motherboard as long as it allows you to upgrade your CPU, GPU, RAM reasonably. That is if you are going to upgrade your CPU and RAM since you already have a new GPU and I assume it’s working on that motherboard?

For higher FPS, majority of your investment should be in GPU and CPU. I’d say you should’ve put a little bit more into your GPU it looks like you’ll get about 40FPS.

Your CPU seems to be back from when dinosaurs where still patrolling earth, so it's entirely possible that you need a new motherboard to plug in a new CPU, but in that case you would first need to decide on which CPU you need to choose a motherboard.

I'm not an AMD user, but your CPU seems to you the FM1 socket, which was introduced in 2011. There are probably no motherboards supporting that after 2014 or 2015.
Another thing to take into account is that when exchanging the motherboard you need to completely reassemble your pc, which includes reinstalling your CPU cooler, which can be a bit tricky as well.

If you don't mind used stuff, you may just look for a used 2 or 3 year old gaming pc. You will end up with a CPU probably at least 5 times faster and it shouldn't cost too much.

I'm lost. Yes, the Radeon works fine. I just need something newer/faster but I'm a sucker for cosmetics. I live how the PC is set up with it's lighting and look. I have 8 gigs or RAM. Need more?

For some strange reason, I was to keep the tower casing. I need to be able to transfer my 2 'hd's stuff. I'm lost on PC language and what I should/do not do so that's why I'm asking. I'd "love" to keep the tower/case as I'm comfortable with it. I just wanna make it faster/more memory so netflix movies look getter, games work fine for at least a year down the road. I don't need to mention watching porn do I?

I'd "love" to keep the tower/case as I'm comfortable with it.
Cases are built to basic standards which hasn't been changed in years. Basically a full ATX tower, Mid, etc.
If it's a mid or full tower, then it can likely accomodate any standard ATX motherboard type, so anything you upgrade to should fit.
ATX and micro-ATX are usually the most common types of boards which fit it most all types of ATX towers.

The mini-ITX series is the smallest form factor for small motherboards and small cases.

The motherboards are revised based on CPU maker and socket type. On top of this, each board has different chipsets which are designed for each CPU family type.

It's very difficult to find a new motherboard for a older CPU that is no longer supported or made.

While GPU (graphics cards) are now using the PCIe slot which has been around for many years now and can be used widely among motherboards made in the last 10-15 years, the CPU, RAM -- isn't transferable.
Your power supply may need to be replaced too, depending which type of unit it is and does it have the necessary power rails for newer hardware. Your HDD's, so long as they are SATA type, can be used but I'd recommend at least at SATA3 type to get the benefit of the speed.
Over all that, I'd go with a MB that has a m.2 slot and supports the newer NVMe drives for the best speed (NVMe uses PCIe lanes and is 7x faster over SATA SSDs and as much as 35x faster than mechanical, spinning platter HDDs

AMD Ryzens are the best bang for the buck when it comes to spec'ing out a new MB, CPU and RAM (at the time of this post, that's the case...) You can build a high-spec system for about ~140k yen (CPU, MB, RAM, NVMe Drive) and about 180-190k if you want to add a PSU (power supply) new case, GPU, etc. -- You can spin the specs down to a mid-grade setup for about half of that.

But the answer to your case question - you should be able to keep it.

In general what’s your wants/needs and budget?
Do you want a pc that works. Or
Mid-range PC that can run RDR2 at reasonably smooth framerate? Or
Future proof high end gaming machine.

As I said, your current graphics card is going to give you about 40 frames per second. (fps) (Roughly, no guarantees). Most gamers like to enjoy at least 60fps and preferably 100+fps. For competitive games, 200fps etc.

It’s normal for resource intensive games like RDR2 to be played on <60fps though.

What kind of upgrade you need will depend on how buttery smooth do you want it to be.

I have a PC that’s from the era yours is from. I wanted to play current PC games too (I had been on console games for a while now) and had to choose between upgrading my old PC or just building a new one. With the hassle and the extent of upgrading my perfectly working old PC (swapping out at the very least mobo, CPU, GPU), I just decided it would be easier to build a new current one for dedicated gaming (and media play). My old one is still around for all other non gaming related things.

Is the case no longer being made? My new case is just some cheap ugly thing that fit everything and has adequate ventilation. It gets put out of sight so looks didn’t matter. My old nicer looking case build is out in the open to see. Of course I could have swapped the old parts into the ugly case and vice verse but didn’t want the hassle.

Money was sort of an object in the sense that the money for building my PC came from the same extra funds that my p4p comes from. So I ended up building an upper mid range for around $1500 USD total. Ryzen 7, 16MB RAM, RX 5700 XT, an M.2 NVMe drive for my OS and main games to run off of, and a normal disk drive for games and media where slower access is ok. I could have been a little bit cheaper by the cost of one HE MP session if I hadn’t also added a big CPU cooler and better fans. Lol.

Thanks for all the great advice. I didn't want to spend a lot and that's why I was thinking power supply/case/ram keep and just swap out MB but like I posted from the git-go, my knowledge on this stuff is minimal. More to consider to just play RDR2

How about buying PS4 , second hand if you just want to play RDR2? Once you are done you can sell it back. Might be a cheaper option than upgrading your PC.
I want better clarity for Netflix and other streaming devices too. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.....

Just want to give anyone who's interested an update on what little ol me found/did. I got my Trump $ finally and immediately pissed it away on an LG 55B9 floor model at Bic Camera. (I hate Bic camera btw....another long story) I had a perfectly running Toshiba Regza 42 inch but I figured.....WTF right? So I put my 42 inch on craigs list (gone in 2 days) but came across this guy doing custom PC's in Meguro area as I was looking around at stuff. I contacted him and back and forth e-mails and we came to an agreement

♠︎CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz
♠︎CPU Cooler: GoldenField Z8 RGB
♠︎MB: MSI Tomahawk B450 ATX
♠︎RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 16 Gb 3200 MHz
♠︎GPU: MSI Gaming X GTX1070 8 Gb
Windows 10 plus work and office (he threw those last 2 in)

I got all this for 65,000 (parts 57,000) and done in less than 24 hours (well, sat night he did it and I dropped it off in the morning)

Got it home and windows 10 is new to me so had some problems, messaged him and he walked me through it.

I highly recommend this guy. If anyone's interested, shoot me a PM

Hope everyones having a nice Sunday and thanks again for your advice.

Just for the sake of accounting...

CPU: $140-$160
Cooler: ~$20
MB: ~$250
RAM: ~$45
GPU: ~$350

Total ~$810

Windows 10 Home is usually $139 (Pro: $199)
Office - It varies depending if you get the Office 366 Plan (~$99/year) or just buy a flat license (~$300)

Were all of those parts new?

Actually had that same MB in my hands just last week. It was just 14.000 with tax in at Tsukumo.

Though what I was actually looking was a case for my NAS. The specially made small one I have been using blew its' power the second time and I think it's time to replace rather than repair anymore.

So anyone know any small sized case that would fit min. 4 pcs of 3.5" harddisks?

Just the cooling fan was new. He said everything was used but not abused. I found another customer by accident and he said this guy is fair/honest. (I met him) He lives in a high rise and he just brought the machine down to me when I arrived to pick it up. He said I can take it home and play with it......I had a couple of problems (my problems) and he walked me through it and he said after a couple of days to send him the money (I didn't pay him for the parts/labor until I got home and was satisfied!!!!!!!!)

I can't help you there. I've got a big Zalmon box.

Yeah, ITX. That one actually looks pretty perfect for my purposes. Thanks!

The one I have been using this far has hot-swap bays but that honestly I don't need that. The only problem with it is the power adaptor is special made and now getting too old.

I cannot buy anything purpose made as the main motivation always is to satisfy my inner geek. :p

Gotcha. So long as he was upfront with the source of the parts, etc. then that's fine.
I don't usually deal with used parts since I can't always verify what kind of use or care they've had. (When someone asks for a custom build, I source new parts... at least if something breaks, there's a warranty and a way to replace it. And if PC parts go bad, they usually do so very quickly after first run.)
