Favorite books or current reads?

I’m re-reading A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick

it’s not my favorite. Just happens to be what I’m reading out of nostalgia.

A few years ago, I read the most I will probably ever read on a Kindle reader ( on my smartphone). I was in rehab ( physical injury not mental or addiction-related) and it passed the time as I was in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber. For serious reading, prefer printed matter on paper versus an LCD screen.

Ever when Philip K. Dick is mentioned I have to think of Do androids dream of electric sheep. I'm just a huge fan of the original Blade Runner.

I thought smartphones weren't allowed in the chamber because of fire risk? I guess the tech's come a long way.

it was inside a monoplace HBOT like a large hard shell pressurized coffin for one person.

I know the large room like chamber for HBOT but didn’t use it; they probably have such rules.

A greater hazard, I think, was eating burritos before an afternoon session.

Kafka and Dostoevsky. F. Scott Fitzgerald too. I don’t read much contemporary stuff but I really like William Gibson.

For those who like premium modern gothic literature, I would recommend The Shadow of the Wind (The first book of a fantastic trilogy), by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, the second most largest Spanish book read in all languages, with 15 Million copies sold.
I have started to reread it this week as a tribute to its author, who died a few days ago of colon cancer.
He refused to sell the copyrights to Hollywood. So, no movie to watch. Just the book and your imagination.

Again on the late side...

During the lockdown at home read (and sometimes re-read) Asimov's:

- robot series
- Foundation series
Last one, Foundation and Eart was by far the best for characterization, I didn't notice when it came out at the time.

I see I have read about half of what has been mentioned here so I would just like to throw a couple of good books "of the last 20 years"

Cloud Atlas, David Mitchell

The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Neil Gaiman

Cheers

Maybe you should select ignore thread at the beginning

I never read the book, but I think I was one of the few people who actually liked Cloud Atlas as a movie;)
