The world may not be able to return to a pre-pandemic lifestyle until at least 2022, billionaire Bill Gates and Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, chief science officer at the World Health Organization, said this week.

So much for penciling-in a trip to Tokyo for business and pleasure in 2021 ...

Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again

If that's true then canned food and shotgun shells should be added to everyone's list of things to invest in.

The good thing is everyone will have lots of free time as most companies are being bankrupted and the work force restructured as they like to say.

I have to admit, you are really committed to that competition!

I don't think that's a far-fetched assessment at all. I was watching that interview with Bill Gates, and then just this morning the heads of the FDA and CDC were issuing similar statements--which Trump very quickly wrote off and contradicted, but that's to be expected.

I do think that Trump will push through an emergency authorization in November or possibly even in late October, but the reality is we just won't have a whole lot of the vaccines to go around and even if we did, we'll be in basically the large-scale test phase of rushed nationwide distribution (and you know we're going to fuck up along the way) for at least a month, probably longer. We should be receiving the mass shipments of vaccine by the new year but most of that will be allocated to frontline/medical staff and high-risk/elderly citizens. I would say it's a fair guess that Average Joe America isn't getting his dose until at least spring.

I think the bigger problem is that there's still a very large percentage of Americans who will refuse to get the vaccine. Polling shows that number is hovering around 30% of Americans, and that's before Trump pushes through a rushed approval.

The CDC's optimistic guess right now is that we won't have the vaccine widely available to the general population stateside for another 6-9 months, and that's putting us at near next summer. How many months after that will it take to build the kind of herd immunity that'll finally lower the new infections? Beats me, but it ain't gonna be quick. I could definitely see it being a year from now before mask and distancing restrictions finally get loosened and I can finally hit happy hour and the gym again.

So much for a nice akasuri this spring.

We have Andrew Wakefield to thank for that one... the jackass is still out there doubling down on it even after his paper was proven to be fraudulent and he was stripped of his medical license.

And we shouldn't forget that airheaded waste of skin Jenny McCarthy for tirelessly promoting that brand of bullshit even after it was conclusively proven to be false.

Well, I'm not holding out much hope that any of the anti-vaccer assholes are going to change their minds, especially with the coming rushed approval, and to be perfectly honest I'm quite happy if they don't want the vaccine because that'll mean the rest of us move up in line. What I do hold out hope for is that the scientists who hypothesized that we could reach realistic herd immunity with just 40% to 50% of the population immune/vaccinated end up being right. But if the older folks in my family can get vaccinated, and then eventually myself and my other half, I'll be more than happy with that.

But there are a few bright spots in the news. Not sure how accurate it is but stateside media are reporting that Australia just wrapped up it's mildest flu season in remembered history and that's probably due to how careful we're being under this pandemic. In the U.S., individual state new infection and mortality numbers are coming down across the board. We're finally lowering the curve (again) in my current location, and there are plans to resume limited flights with Japan and reopening restricted travel next month so who knows?

But if I really do have to wait until 2022 to hit Tokyo again, shit is going to get ugly when I arrive, considering how much play money I'll have saved by then. I'll probably partially fund at least a few boob jobs in Gotanda and bankroll at least one double-eyelid surgery for a commissioned salesgirl in the Nakano watch shops.

Not an anti-vaccer by any means but I am not going to elbow my way to the front of the line either. Stats at the moment show covid19 is very deathly for people over 70 and pretty much your common flu to anyone under 50. And even less dangerous for kids. Happy to get several million other people to figure out the risks of the vaccine first.

Unless of course it is mandatory for travelling to Thailand and Philippines and to enter the clubs in there.

This China virus vaccine I'm going to let every person who wants to do it with my blessing..........just don't push me to do it.

Wakefield - I never paid much attention to the anti-vaccine crowd, so I didn't realize that he was one of the leading morons.

Jenny McCarthy - just another blonde airhead with a big mouth. Then again, I have extremely similar feelings when the celebrity/Hollywood Ignorati hold court on politics and/or foreign policy.

He’s the one that basically started it all, with false claims that the MMR vaccine can cause autism. Before him there was just the odd crackpot who thought that they were somehow injecting microchips and the like.

The corona viruses often cause injury to random parts of the body because of the systemic inflammation and this is not shown in the stats.

Be that as it may, I still must be thankful for the many deposits Jenny made in my mid-1990s spankbank.

I think I read she's banging Marky Mark's older brother now, so I guess she likes racist assholes with small dicks and receding hairlines. I've got a shot.

Was in a crowded train station last night and used the urinal. Pee all over the floor, no social distancing and most users either didnt wash hands or just held their hands under the tap for 0.5 seconds and no soap.

So in Japan at least, there is a willingness and commitment amongst the salaryman community to get back to normal asap.

I don't think Wakefield had anything to do with Japan’s decision to ban the MMR.
