Even After X amount of years in Japan I'll never get used to____

The general public’s opinion about slit dresses. When I wear something like this:

Some old ladies in my local shopping mall hiss. (Or sucking teeth, Idk how you call it) I’ve also heard some ugly remarks about my appearance from passerby’s when I dress like this..
If I wear short skirts, like really short ones, nobody bats an eye though. I don’t think this dress is *that* provocative. Does the slit dress have some sexual connotation in Japan? It’s on the sexy side of conservative if you ask me, but maybe I’m missing some unwritten cultural codes here.

If it was old guys I would have guessed that must be the sound they make when they pass out. For some reason for me those slit dresses are way sexier than any mini skirts.

The best ones are with the waitresses in Marina Mandarin hotel in Singapore. They are slit up so high that the only reason you can't see panties is they wear none.

To be honest they are made so you won't see anything. But so that you sit there drinking their way overpriced beer the whole night hoping you would.

I have a DC credit card.
Each month I log on and download the list of transactions.

It has the standard user name and password. But on the 2nd screen it has an extra level of security (not 2 factor authentication) but you choose one of 2 options.

1. Enter your year and month of birth
2. Enter you phone number.

Strikes to me as being a waste of time, as if someone is smart enough to hack your id and password, finding the other info would be a piece of cake.

Same when you call them and get the 本人確認, which is can you give your date of birth and address. Easy shit to find out and now way of confirming ID.

I am visiting a pharmacy after my doctor appointment. Last time I was here was April last year. They just handed me the umbrella I forgot then...

One of those cheap transparent plastic things you can get from any convinience store. And they had stored it for me for 9 months.

Now I look like a jerk walking around with it in a perfectly fine day.

Serves me right I guess because I didn't actually forgot it but just accidentally grabbed a much nicer one on my way out. And they did call me later that day to tell the other customer would like to get it back. I promised to return it asap and then totally forgot the whole incident.

i hope you understand this is totally unacceptable behavior which gives us all gaijins a terrible reputation. SHAME!

Earlier today I came back from the supermarket and there is a small construction near my apartment. And there were like two guys working really hard and the rest just stood around in a circle, looking.... I’ve only ever seen this in Japan.

That’s because you are from Germany
It’s frequent in most other countries , and not just third world

You mean in Southern Europe there would be only one guy working hard? :p

Seriously? o_O
Well sometimes if there is something to be done than can be done by just 2 guys (say digging in a hole that can’t contain more) and the others need them to finish first before doing whatever they have to do next it can happen anywhere.
That or the others just work too but on the spiritual plane , focusing their joined juju power to help the ones working physically. That’s how I pretend to earn my living by the way :)

I would like to point out the picture only included Herbert's closest supervisors; it missed all the director level people because they are too lazy to go outside.

What you've seen in Japan is euphemistically called a quality circle. One person works, a group watches auditing, taking notes, photos... and after that they spend hours reporting and diagnosing how to improve quality and safety. Others may think this is one of the reasons why Japan ranks twenty-first for labor productivity among the 36 nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

IMHO, here would be the uniform dress of what in France is called a ‘Femme Fatale’. Don't worry so much, the ladies' comments are pure envy.

Could be because those two are the only skilled laborers to complete a part that has to be finished for others to start their work.
Assume there are two activities, A and B where A is a predecessor of B, then it means finish activity A to start activity B.

It was a really tiny construction. Nothing major. And 6 guys standing around the small spot  while two guys using a shovel....
I’ve seen bigger construction sites and less people standing around but everyone doing at least something.

Lol, then it must be a “an army of people assigned for a job which could have been done by a couple of people” situation :hilarious:

Seen often in construction sites in the US where construction workers are unionized. You are not allowed to highjack your colleagues' assignments.
