Japan Vets: Were the Old Days Better and if so, How?

Some of the parks in Tokyo are build in order to prohibit lover hotels and such being opened in the area.
That’s interesting, I didn’t know that. Funny how in creating that park, they made a makeshift love spot for the public.

Damn. Haven't been around that side of town. I prefer 'getting busy' sober. Getting drunk seems like wasting the experience.
What town? What side? What you're posting & commenting on doesn't make any sense without context. :dead:

1) White people were still a hot commodity. Any white person with a pulse could walk into a club or bar and get laid that night.

5) I (Japanese American) was still considered exotic and was offered much more ass just for the intrigue and experience (is it just as small as native?). I provided affirmative confirmation of this.

What's considered normal and large in Japan. I heard they charge extra for large

What's officially considered the 'old days'? Since the time I arrived here (almost 20 years ago) I've had veterans telling me Japan is not nearly as good as it used to be.

I did the eikaiwa thing in my first year here & if I recall, we were considered the lowest rung on the gaijin ladder. Not that it mattered because eikaiwa schools themselves were the best pick-up spots. I know a bunch of guys who would never have reproduced if not for those places, including me

Been a long time since I went to bars so I've got no idea how much that has changed. But one of the best things about getting old is, you don't really care much about that anymore and nothing sticks in your memory too long:)

Before Ishihara became governor of Tokyo, you could basically do anything inside your bar/club. It was the golden age of S&M here. There were many clubs and people played in front of everyone. No issue with nudity, etc. There were many more happening bars too; some high end and all packed on a weekend night. Even though the economy was going down every year in the 90s, people seemed to have a lot of cash and wanted to go out. So many great times.
Ishihara clamped down on all that; forced clubs to close. When he jailed the porn star called Chocoball for 6 months for having sex in front of a crowd at a happening bar, that was basically the end of old, wild Tokyo.

I miss that guy. Ishihara was fucking hilarious. I can't even choose which of his statements was my favorite. But you know, the truth is that he's probably just a self-loathing closet homosexual. Kinda like our former Senator Larry Craig, the fag-hating radical whose career ended when he was caught trying to score dick in a public restroom. Think about, Ishihara was an author, playright, his family is involved in the arts and he was a personal friend of Yukio Mishima. Where there's smoke there's usually fire, and that's more than just smoke.

He's Japan's Colonel Frank Fitts, and angry because he never found his Kevin Spacey. But I try not to mention K.S., as I'll forever hate him for ruining the House of Cards series for me.

Just for that, I thought of something else from the old days that no longer exists: The large glass Asahi Super Dry bottles being sold in vending machines. At least, I haven't seen one since around 2007-ish. There was one across the street from my first 1K unit in the Osaka suburbs, and a kindly old female cashier at (the dry) neighborhood Famima pointed it out to me on my first night in Japan. I excitedly started pumping money in and filled up my red North Face backpack full of bottles. First time I got drunk in-country. Never again was a vending machine so convenient, where on a sunny morning off, I'd stop by the machine on my way to the train station, pop the top and stroll down the street happily chugging, eliciting disgusted looks from all the old women riding past on their creaking bicycles. Perfect size for the 5-minute walk, and virtually guaranteed nobody would try to engage me in small talk.

Whatever happened to those? Seems all conbinis sell alcohol now but when I was new here i remember only about half of them did.

I did notice that during my return trips over the years. I suspect that whatever the governmental licensing process is in Japan, it's gotten easier (or cheaper) over the years to the point where just about any franchisee can acquire the permits to sell alcohol. I have no clue how that works in Japan but I am somewhat familiar with the process here stateside. In my current state, that's why you often see restaurants advertised as "BYOB." It's not because they want to make the dining experience more affordable by bringing your own booze, but because they can't afford the licensing fees (or bribes to the liquor commission) to get the proper permits or simply don't want to bother with the years-long process. But Japanese being far less entrepreneurial than crooked American bureaucrats, I'd guess the individual municipalities finally just made things easier to get sales permits so the middle-management folks at the bureau have one less instance where they have to think on their own.

No parapara dance anymore, Japan has become shit.

When I was here in 2001, I was barely 17, and I got this 28-year-old lady to get me into Velfarre where it was the number Para Para spot at the time. I had a blast. She knew I was 17, but she knew the management and just told them I was a friend. She got drunk and she gave me drinks. I was with a group of teenagers who were set to do a summer homestay. The woman didn't get too frisky with me, but she did lean her head on my shoulder a lot just to rest. At 17, it was kind of nice. I felt another few more days in Tokyo (I ended up in Hiroshima), I could've probably gotten laid by a much older woman. Either way, I got some with authentic school girls as an authentic schoolboy.

The old days are kind of special in their own way. So much has changed, and so much has stayed the same. I also went to Gas Panic back then. For years, it was the hot spot. I can't believe it lasted this long. I also remember "Golden Time" TV. Those were some interesting times. I really loved the fashion. Girls were really into loose socks...and it really turned me on...

Wait, are loose socks no longer a thing? Fuckin' hell, I'm getting old. Didn't even notice. But that also means I haven't been paying much attention to schoolgirls. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Wonder if anyone here visited the original Gaspa location where I think Yotteba is now across the street from where the basement Gaspa was. (Around the corner from Propaganda.) There was also a good bar in that area called Deja Vu…. Maybe this is too old skool.. Lol.

Yep, I remember those places
Original GasPa was way better (or less awful depending on how GasPa fan you are) than the one that followed on the Roppongi main strip

Impressive! And Maharaja, LexQueen…. Those were the days my friend!!
Ah ah, LexQueen with the regretted Bill Hersey , the gay friend of Hollywood stars …. What a joke of a club (by western standards) but I remember all my friends wanted to go there because this is where you could meet the “models”.

Lexington queen was for nova teachers and 15 year olds…. And literally A list hollywood celebs. The weirdest place ever. When i was working at nova and my weekend was wed/thu we used to get the last train into roppongi, arriving around 1am or something, then it was 3k nomihodai until 6am. The clientele was under age guys from international schools, english teacher losers (me), russian ‘models’ and gaijin-hunters. i loved it.
BUT they also seemed to attract every famous actor and athlete that visited japan. No idea how they did it.
