Approaching on trains?

What do you guys think about cold-approaching on a train?

There have been a couple of times where I'm in a train and almost sure I see a chick eyeing me up, but never approach because making an approach in such an enclosed space in front of so many people feels awkward to me.
Certainly doesn't help that pervy Japanese guys groping on trains seems to be a notorious problem here.

Thoughts?

Train stations are good for nampa. Trains themselves would be weird.

It has been a while since I did nampa in the train, but carry a Japanese learning book with you. The best way is to ask for help learning Japanese and then go from there. After that, it is up to your game to pull.
 
Approaching on a train is just a different setting. When you approach her, don't look like you're some random ass stranger talking to a girl, talk to her like you would one of your friends. If she likes you, she'll respond in a similar manner, if she doesn't she'll probably move away/ignore you.

You're a foreigner, use your foreignerness to get away with certain faux pas, but be empathetic to her situation and don't embarrass her in public. She cares more about being judged by other Japanese people who will probably talk shit about her for doing something as reprehensible as having conversation with a stranger on a train.

As long as it doesn't look/sound like you're picking her up to the other people around you, it's fine. I found that many (Japanese) girls want some form of plausible deniability. If you can always leave them an out, you'll probably get decent results.

Never really understand why people take the time to post semi-sarcastic pot shots in a subforum that doesn't really relate to them...

It's like wandering into a Mexican neighborhood and saying spicy food sucks when you're an Italian who eats at Olive Garden or something

It's probably like any "Yoshiko's Teriyaki Bowl" sorta joint I ever came across in the Midwest. Frequented by broke white college kids, staffed by illegal Mexicans and owned by Koreans.

It's not about time, it's about time spent in communities you seemingly have no interest in. Which is why I don't spend my time crawling the reddits for furries, or tabletop gaming, or whatever. Nanpa interests me which is why I am on (only) this subforum...

Ok , for full disclosure, I did nampa on a plane and it worked. So I hope Sinapse can allow me in his little club now. But on a train? Ewww ! Gross :)

Maybe if you try it by arriving at stations like Shibuya, Shinjuku or Roppongi asking her some question you will have some success. If you are one of the few who know how to differentiate between a curious look and one of attraction. Otherwise you are going to promote in public the national opinion that foreigners are stalkers.

Merci! Back to topic I still think it’s really not the right time with Covid cases spiking in Tokyo and other people watching to try nampa on a train. But then again I may be wrong , it’s a big city with many girls and many trains, might work once in a blue moon…
