I'm usually a patron of Excelsior, mainly as a result of my Japanese girl friends that like to hang out there.

Starbucks = Too stuffy
Tullys = can't stand some of the drinks
Doutor = Ok

There are a bunch of small cafes that are independent and most have a different theme. I've got a few I like to keep to myself, don't want the world crowding in these smaller places on the weekend when I'm trying to hide from the rest of the world. :p

karen-chan

i prefer dotour or beckers.
too many noisy girls at excelsior and starbucks. not to mention dimwitted foreign guys slobbering over jp girls at those places.

Excelsior for sure.

My current office location in Central Tokyo doesn't have an Excelsior close by, shocking I know. The closest one is somewhere near the Shin-Maru building, which is a good 15 minute walk underground to get there. As a matter of fact, I was walking around this morning looking for a place to get a good Iced Cafe Latte, but no one had one that I liked and Starbucks is much too expensive for what you get. I'd still walk the 15 minutes to pay 100 yen less and get a better tasting one.

Another interesting point, to the east of where my apartment is, there are hardly any cafes at all. To the west, there plenty... strange.

Personally, I prefer Starbucks. Maybe it's just because it feels like home. (There's also some good looking girls hanging out at Starbucks as well, bonus!)

There are others I like on ocasion, but I have no idea what their name is since I cannot read the Kanji.

LOL! :p

Take picture and give us the Google Map location!!!!

I'd have to throw my hat in the ring for Excelsior.

They are usually easy to find and usually have a decent selection of food and drink items. Where I'm working right now, there isn't one close by. I hope that will change soon with one of the new buildings going up near my main office. Most everywhere else I go, there is one nearby.

There's one or two small weekend cafes that I like to spend time at. One is in Shinjuku, out in the western part. There's another in Ueno... usually see the same local people in those places each time I go in. They recognize me as a regular patron after going there for the last few months. ;)

Starbucks in Lumine 5th floor Shinjuku. Harder to get to so with a little wait there is always a seat. Book store connected to it with some good art books. Its not my favorite but I dont like smoking. There are lots of little ones around but the coffee is expensive and small. 1 I like in Koenji is called Mone- it is a small art cafe. Photographers use the walls to display latest works and the owner is really cool. Its on a small alley across from Seiyu south of Koenji Eki on the chuo sen

Koenji!

I know that place! I'll have to check that out. Koenji is a strange town with a very weird history of Yazkuza and media personalities. It's not a bad place to live though. Thanks for that that tip in Koenji.

For others, I'm usually found in some Starbucks around Yoyogi area.
