Hi,

I read this excellent review of hipness.jp -

http://tokyoadultguide.com/threads/hipness-variety-marathon-haru-victoria-cyndi-dorla-erika.8321/

and thought I'd try my luck to see if one of the girls could come to my hotel.

I called and asked for Cindy but I was told that I needed a Japanese phone number and a hotel number and room number was not good enough.

Does anyone know if I was just unlucky and stumbled on a guy who was just not very cooperative? Is there anything I could do without a Japanese phone number?

Alternatively, could I walk-in and ask for one of the girls to take me to love hotel nearby?

Btw, I did get a SIM card for my phone but it's data only - I was told that there's a law that makes it illegal for non-Japanese nationals to have a voice number. I hear there's a workaround with bmobile, but I'm here for two weeks so I didn't bother.

Thanks for the help, this board is awesome!
Joe

Did you call from your hotel phone? That should be a Japanese number.

Yeah I did - the guy was strange, he said my hotel phone number was not acceptable.

Nope, Skype is an 050 (Voice over IP) number, which is not a Japanese cell prefix.

ah makes sense - I was wondering what that 050 prefix was. Interesting that Japan explicitly defined a "Voice Over IP" prefix.

050 was the old PHS prefix for here in Japan. It's noticeable it's not a normal cell phone from the providers.

Go to SoftBank and get a rental phone or at the airport... skype also works with most providers for me....

The gig with having 2 have a J cell fon number is so that the caller can be traced and apprehended if he harms the girl.

Yap rent a fon at airport that's what most tourists do

Isn't it a waste of money if you going to rent a voice sim just for this purpose for 1-2 calls only.

so is skype acceptable, I was going to use skype.

Asked and answered about 5 posts ago in this thread. They want a real cell phone number because they want to be able to track you down if something goes wrong. Skype and other VoIP numbers are about as anonymous as you get.

Says the man flying into Japan to pay for sex with hookers. I think you can afford it. o_O

You can pick up a rental phone for about 4k a week with cheap calls, so it's not going to break the bank.

Now buying one, that's another story, expensive and with a lot of hoops to jump through as you not only need a resident card, you also need the residence certificate, so back to the gov office I go.

you also need the residence certificate

Seriously? For new service?

This must be new... I've taken a few people to SoftBank to get new service setup and only had to show a Zairyu card and payment with a credit card or bank transfer setup.

What service are you going for> AU, NTT, Softbank or other?

TAGmin is right. The zairyu card replaced the old registration system.

Well, getting a cell phone contract in Japan is a pain in the ass. The big providers only sell 2 year contracts. I bought one from a reseller (Umobile) at Yamada. On my first try they didnt want to sell me with just Id card, but required some proof of residence like an electricity bill or water bill. I went to another store, where that wasnt needed (3rd one i tried). Definitely not foreigner friendly.

I was signed up at NTT last weekend, had my residence card but they wanted the certificate as well. Walked out the store without a mobile in the end. Maybe I'll try softbank over the weekend
