Japan Opening Up? From April 8, 2022 | Now October 11, 2022 - Normal Tourism.

I don't think it is isolation or protectionism.

There reason for slowly letting ppl in b/c of old population or whatever is reasonable... but their citizens can travel to USA while USA is experiencing massive Covid wave and return home without any problems, but we have to go through a bunch of hoops or limits on getting in.

what do you mean? Both Japanese and resident foreigners need to do a PCR test before they come back to Japan and are subject to the same inspection processes…

oh you meant non-resident foreigners maybe? Yeah well it’s true but then it’s not a Japanese/ Foreigners issue more a Resident/ Non-Resident one. At the beginning they prevented foreign resident to come back though, that was truely discriminatory

I see no reason to leave......and glad the boarders are still closed. Might be an influx from Taiwan pretty soon though :(

If you think the younger generation is not getting more xenophobic you missed the last 20 years of east Asia political developments. It's less visible in Japan than Korea or China but angry young male resentment is here to stay.
Completely. They don’t question what they are told, and anti-foreigner sentiment is only getting stronger with them.
I think that’s one of the perverse reasons enjoy fuking Jgirls. Outside of the physical attributes, I’m doing my own personal invasion.

When I passed though Narita the other day, I asked the women directing the Immigration line where ‘re-entrants’ can go through as it wasn’t clear. She just started yelling ‘Foreigners there! All foreigners go over there!!!’. It would have been more comical, had the Customs guy not tossed my passport on the counter, after doing the two-handed bow return to the J-guy in front of me.
A fine welcome back indeed. Should have asked for a pen.

I see no problem with that. I love Taiwanese girls.
Possibility of missiles close behind :p I love Taiwanese girls too. Meeting one this afternoon aamof

Me too as long as they don't try to convince me of some crypto investment bullshit.
Usually other side of Taiwan Strait is where that comes from.

Honestly apart from the episode at the beginning of the pandemic when residents could not come back if they left , I didn’t see much discrimination, even for visiting people
but then again I don’t really notice rude obasans or the way a guy will give me back a passport
It’s a fact though that now any visitor needs a visa to get in and I don’t think if it will change soon

My experience matches yours, I recently had to leave back home and when I came back I didn’t have any issues. I was even directed to a line for re-entrants and found that people were professional a polite. The process was more efficient than when I came in the first time for sure.

I’ve never been treated rudely at immigration in Japan. Rudest treatment I ever got was in Germany.

Mine was in Montréal airport on arrival. My God was I treated rudely by this guy with, to paraphrase George Carlin, a two-digit IQ and six-digit salary.

US for me . They are really good at making feel you like a worthless piece of crap sometimes (rare but it happens). The worst one was this lady who wanted to know who and why and where etc when I just said I came to visit my then GF. Maybe she was jealous ? :D

Probably… fuck border services, literally if you have to.
