Hey everyone. New here to Tokyo, passing through but should be coming over every so often.

I think this may be a unique question: Does anybody know what are the girls thoughts on beards is? I have been quite keen to check out JK-Style. I am white with a reasonably tidy but large-ish beard. I don't see many dudes around with beards here so wondering if they are considered scary or anything.

Personal preference I think but in Japan anything can be either a fetish or a turn off. A beard alone wouldn't be enough. Coming in looking like a truck driver just getting off the road would. There's lots of fashionable guys with hipster beards.

I've wondered the same thing. I grow a full beard from fall through the winter, but have always shaved it off whenever I go to Tokyo. Luckily mine grows back quickly and looks decent after a week and a little trim.

I was just looking around and I realized after reading this post that nobody has any facial hair here, at all.

This is of course a business setting where facial hair is kind of discouraged. (not against a rule, but you'd certainly stick out.)

As far as girls go, it varies... some care, some don't and others like it.

A girl I know raves about them, something about the extra stimulation on the inner thighs when you go down on them. I am sure you could suggest that as a new experience to girls you may meet her. Remember to use some conditioner to keep the hairs soft.

I have a full beard which is often fairly neatly trimmed but occasionally gets a bit out of control. It definitely has not prevented me from "getting to know" a fair number of Japanese (and other) women over the years. It appears to attract a few as a point of novelty, and they sometimes remark that they have never before gone out with (or kissed or had sex with or whatever) a man with a beard. Echoing @Hap Smith I have also heard expressions of concern about the beard being scratchy, and some women want to touch it with their hands before letting it near any more sensitive areas.

Anyway, from my experience, it is a mild positive in some cases and definitely not a big problem. Of course, there might well be lots of Japanese (and other) women who instantly classify me as of no interest due to the beard; it is very unlikely that they would say so directly though (especially since there are so many other good reasons to reject me as a possibility), so it is impossible to know. But if such women exist, they aren't a large majority anyway.

I have heard Japanese gals make comments about bearded guys like, "It looks dirty, he has hannimals in his beard."

Bull shit, beards are manly and awesome.

Fortunately beard did not raise any eyebrows with my JK date yesterday.

With the big bushy growths the girls have down there, and a big bushy beard, I'd be scared of DATY in case you get the Velcro effect.

I don't understand the new fad with beards, they look good on a very small percentage of men. When they look good they look great, the rest just look like Grizzly Adams or a homeless guy that can't afford a razor.

For me, I have no hair, so the beard gives me some personality. Without it my head would look weird.

There is actually a some research on beards and attractiveness. Basically, two points:

- 'heavy stubble' of around 10 days growth is the most attractive (hollywoodish look)
- The more uncommon beards are the more attractive. If beards become common then shaved faces gain the advantage.

These were done in Australia so they may not translate well here.

I enjoy growing a beard every so often. Other guys almost always like it while women are mixed in opinion. When I eventually shave, I get a lot of 'you look much younger' and 'that looks much nicer'.

Just for the experience I was thinking of meeting a JK or OL with a 6-8 day growth and giving them the option of on or off once we has got started. I had a Japan girl friend once who would go freakin' bananas when her nipples were grazed by stubble.

bananas can mean good or bad? which is it?

I asked my JK friend today what she thought of the beard. She showed me her translation app: It suits you.

Damn right girl. Bet your ass it does.

Believe what you want. Generally speaking Japanese ladies don't like beards. Although being polite they only bad mouth weirdy beirdys behind their backs.

Perhaps/probably true, but generally speaking Japanese ladies don't like gaijin (as sex/romance partners) at all, so the question is not how typical Japanese women feel about beards. The question is how do Japanese ladies who are interested in gaijin in the first place feel about them. My experience with that group is as I described it in my previous post...probably a mild positive on average and certainly not a big problem in general.

In fact, a fascination with "big hairy foreigners" is a significant part of what attracts those Japanese women who find gaijin desirable. This includes beards but also body hair in general...hair covered chests and arms and so forth. It is, of course, a point of sharp contrast with Japanese men who often lack noticeable body hair. At least this is what I have observed with my Japanese lovers.

I know a number of Japanese dudes who have goatees, and a few with well-trimmed full beards. (You'll notice that lots of ball players here have facial hair of some kind.) They all seem popular enough with the ladies. My sense is that a shaggy Santa Claus beard won't get you much action here, but anything reasonably maintained is probably ok.

... except for in November and December. I made a killing last year asking ladies if they wanted to get on my naughty list.
