I rode my bike passed a group of about six young Japanese guys and one of them shouted "yare" at me? I know that yare yare means "whew" but I'm sure he only said it once. My Japanese friend tells me it is a negative thing and means "do it!" or "kill it/attack it". They were probably just joking around because it isn't like they actually attacked me. They could very well be racist cunts as well, but it didn't bother me. I just wanted to know if anyone here has ever had a Japanese person shout yare at them before?

Dude you need to make irl friends and talk to them about those stuff. I don't think here is the place for you to do so. This is TOKYO ADULT GUIDE, we are talking about sex related topics.

Oh I'm sorry, I just thought maybe this topic would be referred to as RANDOM CHIT-CHAT.

By the way, I hear that too in large groups of J males. Could be that they are surprised to see you or talking about something that you can't understand that has nothing to do with you. Case in point, Youtube suggests that if they really mean what they are saying, they will attack you. Since you were not attacked, this is just a misunderstanding on your part.

Why not ask the wife?
Young boys in groups the world over yell random stuff at passers-by they think will either not understand or are different but 'safe' to yell at to get group credit. It ャレ could mean 'fight', 'fuck you' or it could be some line from some dumb manga or both. Either way it did not cause your head or treadlie ties to instantaneouslty implode. (Did it???) Now IF you were eyeballing these guys before or as you went by then it is quite possible that overt 'challenge' got you an appropriate reply.

Do you just go around eye balling people with a scowl on your face or something? It seems like every post you make involves some sort of confrontation where you feel wronged. Maybe it was not related to you at all and you happened to be riding by. The world is not out to get you. There is no conspiracy.

Yeah, I have no specific idea why, but Tjb does appear to have more unhappy/unpleasant encounters with Japanese strangers in a month than I have had in the past 25 years spending extensive time in Tokyo.

I've known people who have worked for Japanese companies years and spend lots of time in Japan who never deal with anyone unpleasant or racist reading his comments just seems strange to me as it's stuff I've never really heard of before with foreigners in Japan. Silly office crap and politics sure but never randoms on the street being openly insulting or aggressive.

I don't get it either. I'm coming up on 25 years in and out of Japan, and I can count my "unpleasant" interactions with Japanese strangers on one hand with three fingers left over.

I'm coming up on 25 years in and out of Japan, ...

Sounds like our Nihon-lives are on parallel trajectories. That sentence equally well describes me...with the slight mod that I am just a little bit past 25 years now.

Well, I know what I'll be doing for the 25th anniversary..... Kinpeibai has a little spinner on the menu that's 130cm/4'4" tall - assuming she's still on the roster when the magic day comes 'round. Then I'll hopefully be able to round out the day with a gal over 180cm tall. I figure at 25 years I'll have seen the long and short of it... so I might as well do the short and long!

Got a link to the 4'4"?

Maybe I'm just crazy, but that doesn't mean there are absolutely no racist or xenophobic Japanese people. I have come across at least one and so have all you. To say otherwise would be a giant pile of horseshit.

I suspect one major difference, at least in my case and probably for many others as well, is that we hardly notice and don't give it a second thought...have forgotten the whole thing 10 minutes later, even when we do have one of these encounters you seem to find so upsetting.

I guess it is due to paranoia and a general distrust for people due to being molested and bullied as a child.

I think we all have our foibles. I can be paranoid myself. It tells me I am overtired and or, too hot. I think you seem to have the same thing. I would take it as information that you are feeling tired. There are assholes all over the world.
There are going to be people who joke around in a silly way. But as Wwanderer says, he forgets it in 10 minutes. Or doesn`t notice it in the first place. Practice not noticing these things.

Yes... but, you are not going to be able to change that racism by anything you do. So... why waste energy on it? Live with it. Learn it. Use it to your advantage.

Why do we need to know this? Why would you be willing to share such personal information in an on-line forum with total strangers?

I guess it is the only way to explain my strange my behaviors in a logical way. Yes, I do need to change and not be so on edge. It isn't as easy as flipping a switch on and off, but it is something I'm working at. A couple months ago, I would have said something really rude to that woman that only might have been whispering about me. I know this isn't a great achievement for most people in the world, but not verbally attacking the source of my paranoia is a huge step for me.
