As all of us regulars know, there is a steady stream of posts from people who are want are coming to Tokyo for the first time or with little previous experience and often only briefly who post asking for help with some aspect of adult life in Tokyo. E.g., can I get into a soapland without speaking Japanese, will my hotel let a DH escort come to my room, should I use the "services" of English speaking touts who approach me on the street, etc. These inquiries are very often ones we have seen many times before and have already been answered multiple times.

I wonder if it would be useful to make a prominently labeled forum called "Tokyo Newcomers Please Start Here" or something of that sort. The threads in the forum could be common newbie inquiries, and they could contain either answers or perhaps just links to old threads in which the answer is given.

This might be particularly useful when the Olympics brings floods of randy foreigners to the city for their first time.

Let me add... I'm writing a intro or welcome message for people when they join. That will help some... but probably need to careful about what links to include in the message. We already have a rubber stamp reply message when people try to reply to automated alerts via email. :hilarious:

Do newbies usually/ever find that thread on their own, and how many of their typical questions does it answer?

I don't know. There's enough people that have said outright that they either refuse to do any research or even if they do read some of the reviews (if they have access to them) they still want to know who the latest and the greatest are, as if guys are going to be more willing to give out their unreviewed ATFs to a guy on his first post.

I honestly don't know if it answers their specific question. I wrote it up trying to make it as general as possible so that people had a little bit of an idea of what to expect going in, and how to go forward with their research.
