Well, if you haven't been under a rock in the last 9 hours, you may know that Apple announced their new devices overnight.

http://www.apple.com/newsroom/2016/09/apple-introduces-iphone-7-iphone-7-plus.html and highlights: http://www.apple.com/newsroom/2016/09/highlights-from-apples-september-2016-event.html

I was not planning on upgrading my iPhone 6, but I just read a blurb earlier this morning about the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus supporting SUICA and other Japan electronic payment systems. (Finally)

http://www.apple.com/newsroom/2016/09/apple-pay-coming-to-japan-with-iphone-7.html

This alone may be enough reason to change phones once the dust settles. I will certainly consider the option now with this announcement.

For all other intents and purposes, there's no screaming reason to change to a 7 that I can see.

The whole lack of of the earphone jack isn't much of an issue for me, I rarely, if ever actually use it. I use Bluetooth for all of the audio accessories these days.

Personally.... I think we'll see a rise of the iPhone 7 for those who wanted an iPhone but were waiting for Apple Pay and/or SUICA-like functions. People still lingering with iPhone 4, 5, 5S and maybe SE could be tempted to upgrade. People with 6 or 6S, probably are less likely inclined to upgrade.

Last but not least, Air Pods.

That is pretty cool actually....

(No interest in Apple Watch, so not gonna talk about it! lol)

I must have the jet black one, scratches be damned, looks so elegant! Support for suica and Apple Pay is a big deal too, let's see how long it takes to deliver that...

According to the article, it will be available when the phone is released. So, we shall see.
If I go to a 7, I'll wait awhile to see what bugs crop up... maybe a christmas present to myself if it looks good enough.

That Jet Black though, I hope it looks as good as it does in the pics. ..and 256GB storage, a couple of plus points in the overall picture.

I'm on the US iPhone Upgrade Program so I should be able to more or less trade in my 6S and get a 7 once my year is up in a month or two. I don't think Apple talked at all about better battery life for the Apple Watch, so I'll likely hold off till the next rev. Or maybe I'll buy the 1st gen at the lower price. Just having the clock plus step-counter and heart rate monitor is enough for me to have one. I just didn't want to deal with the low battery life. It's definitely a product that's coming along nicely. Evolution is Apple's thing with products.

Also, if you didn't catch it, iOS 10 will also have Tokyo transit directions. The ones for other cities like SF are actually pretty solid. It'll tell you which exit of a station to go out, etc.

I will most likely switch from my 6 to the 7 but not sure if the normal or plus. It looks quite big but maybe that's just u tip you get used to it.
The suica option is pretty cool and useful, same as it's finally waterproof. I'm reading a lot when in the bathtub and kinda holding it as strong as I can to make sure nothing happens haha.
But I will wait until October or November when the first crowd is over like I did 2 years ago with the 6 release. Going for rosegold

I hate the fact that only Japan iPhone 7/7+ models (as shown on apple.co.jp with different model numbers than the ones shown on apple.com) will have the FeliCa chip/support. I travel frequently enough to Japan that I want the same functionality dang it!

I like the bigger screen of the 6S vs the 5S, but for most things it's a 2 handed phone. The plus is obnoxiously big IMO, but if you are going to be using it with two hands anyway, and you have a purse it's probably not so bad.

Going for rosegold

When I was in line for my 6S, I chatted up this really attractive woman in her 20s, and she admitted that she was buying the rose gold phone, not because she liked the color, but because this was the first year Apple was shipping a rose gold phone and it proved that she had the most recent one. Talk about being obsessed with status.

And here I am posting a sell on all my AAPL stocks. Usually it goes up a few percent on announcement, not this time.

They should just make a single version for all regions. I remember travelling to China and my LTE wasn't compatible and was dropped to GPRS speeds.

I cleared out all my AAPL at $90, some held for 7-8 years, what a return!

Real shame they can't innovate anymore, Jobs was truly the sole motive force. Apple will milk his work for a long time to come but it's clear they'll never deliver iPhone level innovation again :'-(

It really depends. For a long time AAPL dropped a little bit after every announcement because everyone was expecting Apple to give everyone a free unicorn and were disappointed when it didn't happen.

I don't think that's necessarily true. The main 'skill' of Apple is that it's a company that isn't set in its ways the way, say, Microsoft was back in the day. Apple was willing to change focus off its core business and essentially become a device company. Jobs helped mastermind that pivot, but Cook was the one that was able to handle operations, Eddy Cue set up iTunes and negotiated contracts, etc. What people forget is that Jobs was also the mastermind of plenty of clunkers, although he and Apple were able to minimize those, and that all of Apple's 'revolutionary' innovations were actually evolutionary. The original iPod wasn't available on Windows, and didn't have the iTunes Store. The original iPhone was only available in a few countries, had really slow cellular bands - EDGE instead of the relatively ubiquitous 3G at the time, etc. both the iPod and the iPhone took probably 3 years each to achieve any sort of major market penetration.

I would argue that 'they'll never deliver iPhone level innovation again' is only correct in that Apple is such a huge company and cell phones as devices are more ubiquitous than anything else in our daily lives that it's somewhat impossible to top. I'd say if they come out with a car, that's certainly a possible topper. But I think people will forget both history and Apple's business model and badmouth it when Apple doesn't become the biggest carmaker in the world in 2 years. :)

People said the same thing when the iPhone was released and everyone had Nokia or Motorola phones. Apple radically changed the world with flat touchscreen phones, the App Store, and to a large degree with the iPad as well.

The Watch, TV, and possible car are not innovative, they're me-too ideas following whatever is currently hyped.

I would say being ahead of the curve is why Apple became so valuable and is what they lost with Job's passing. Hope I'm wrong but won't bet any money on that!

So glad I got an SE... I was kind of hesitant to switch over since the 7 was probably hitting later in the year but zero regrets now.

Continuing with the big and rounded form factor is a big minus for me and the lack of a headphone jack is kind of a bummer (even though they say there will be a lightning adaptor for regular jacks).
