I need to shape up - but I can't bear crowded or small gyms where you need to wait for equipment - or come into close contact with others.

Can anyone recommend a good, spacious gym (pool not required), "ideally" with large free weights area and heavy bag?

I don't mind paying. Cheers.

I use Anytime Fitness as it's open 24/7 and I can go late at night when no one else is using it.

I checked out the Ark Hills one - its tiny! Basically a small room. Which one did you mean?

The one I go too is not in Tokyo I live outside Tokyo, but I know they have them all over Tokyo which is why I mentioned it, some are bigger than others. They aren't huge, but they are not very busy usually after 9pm you usually have the whole place to yourself.

There are several 24 hour gyms which offer simple machines and weights. They are generally pretty empty at night so you can be free to train. Should be one near your home. Where do you live? That may help with suggestions.

I used to go to the Anytime Fitness in Mita, decent size and never too crowded.

Not to mention Anytime Fitness doesn't have a monthly contract so you could try them and if you don't like them you can quit.
