Hi TAG.

Been working here in Tohoku for about a couple months now. Currently needing cash badly, since I've come to realize that my current job situation is not really ideal for saving up for that things I want (booking high-end escorts and buying a car) and I'm thinking of getting a part time job.

The easiest ones to get into here in my area pays around 800-1000 円 per hour for a 4-hour shift at least twice a week. My only worries is that my poor nihongo skills might be a problem when interacting with customers, and the night shifts might take a toll on me and affect my day job as an engineer (well, glorified CAD operator, but whatever)

Do you guys think getting a part time here in Japan is worth doing? I hope somebody can share their experiences or give me pointers on what I can do.

Thanks in advance, cheers!

Maybe bartending on weekends? Night shift pays more and you can save up more if you’re a person who could stay awake. You can have some fun by listening to all the drama in people’s lives as well :D Chances are high that your poor Nihongo won’t be a huge issue.

All the best and I hope reach your goals
(Personally I would feel very uncomfortable if someone booked me by counting each dime..)

In a nutshell, you want to to work like a slave for 800 yen an hour. Then after 60 hours of slavery work, you will give 50,000 yen to a luxury companion to suck your cock for an hour.

By the way, if you have an engineering qualification you should be able to get a decent job.

Good luck!

Remember that your status of residence determines what kind of work you are legitimately allowed to do - and also that your employer may have rules regarding employees working outside jobs as well.

If you have an engineering qualification, you would probably be better off finding a job that pays more. There's a labour shortage on, and I know a couple of our client companies are screaming for qualified CAD operators.

If you're not tied to Tohoku, you'll do much better in terms of wages in Kanto or Kansai.

So let me get this straight. Your plan is to work all day for low wages, and then work all night for even lower wages, just so you can afford two completely unessential luxuries? Get a girlfriend. Get a SUICA. Get a clue.

Yeah, I agree. It makes absolutely no sense of buying a car. Use your hard earned money wisely and spend it all with mid-priced escorts.

The adult industry here in my area is way cheaper, though more sparse in terms of choices, compared to Tokyo and other major Japanese cities. I'm more inclined actually to saving up for a car, as commuting by bike in a mountainous area isn't as easy as it first seemed.

Currently working under the engineer visa, though I'm a licensed architect in my home country. Bound by contract to work in this company for at least a year and the pay is not bad, but I just want more sources of income. Might shoot you a pm for your contacts in case I'm back to the job market.

Will try looking for one, thanks!

And I don't want to be that bloke that haggles with a beautiful lady, either.

I have a SUICA, BUT Morioka has few JR lines. IGR (Local train) doesn't accept SUICA and many places here are unaccessible by train.

I get that P2P is an unnecessary expense, but if you live out in the boonies, a car ain't a luxury; it's a necessity.

Labour contracts aren't quite the same here as they are elsewhere. If you do find something more attractive, don't sweat moving on it.

That's not going to happen, I don't directly mix professional and mongering life. The closest I come is using some of my pay to fund the hobby.

If you are hell bent on transportation, then get a motorbike - lower cost to buy (used) easier on petrol (lower costs) and can use almost year round with quality weather gear.. and most girls love to sit on the back of a bike, squeeze the driver as they wrap their arms around him, smash their breasts against his back... not to mention the vibration going on between their legs.... Just don't get a Hello Kitty Helmet - awww fuckit... go ahead it would be Kawaii  Don't forget to send Pics and Field reports when you ride and pick up :D

Oops, forgot I'm in a mongering site. At least thanks for the information that CAD operators are somewhat in demand here, so cheers for that.

Why don’t you work a part time English teacher gig? You will make more and you’ll have some control over your schedule. Though I imagine your CAD skills are more valuable. Can you freelance as a CAD operator?

Oh, that's a good idea. Might research on that, though it'll be more of tutoring than teaching though...

Get a car on pay off and then do some delivery health driver job...

Wait, your visa might not allow that, lol.

I've yet to see a deriheru service here in my area. Working as a part time driver might be fun though, since I'm the type who likes driving at night. Will look into it, thanks!

The OP needs to use his time and energy to get a better job in Tokyo. Instead of chasing 800 yen 'opportunities' in the backside of Japan.

this thread makes me feel depressed

Eh, he's up in Morioka. You're from Vancouver, right? It's no different than if he was trying to get extra cash living in Prince George or Fort St. John. Small town with not a lot of opportunity.

A lot of companies, our clients included, recruit overseas for people to fill jobs in those areas because even the locals won't take positions out there.

It's a pity, the surrounding area is absolutely lovely if you're a nature type. There's just no other incentive to be there if you're not making good money or you don't have family in the region.

You may want to ask your employer if you can work overtime and be properly paid extra for it. Many Japanese firms, most of small-medium sized firms, just don't pay for the OT hours' work, or they set a cap for paid OT(e.g., max 20 hours OT per month are to be paid and the rest are not). Nevertheless, if you work for a large manufacturing firm, you may be able to negotiate. Properly-compensated 20 hours' OT would pay you better than 40 hours' part-time job at a konbini.

I actually love it here, living in the outskirts near mountains. It's just that you are basically trapped to just your neighborhood (and the adjacent towns, if you have the legs for it) if you don't have a way of transport (car) and I can feel my balls shriveling up with the lack of physical interactions with the opposite sex.

The cost of living is way better compared to the huge money sink that is Tokyo plus the food tastes way better. I could live here my entire life here, actually, given that I can financially sustain the lifestyle I want.

From what you have said, you can't financially sustain your life there. You are talking about working for 800 yen an hour in a combini! Working in One of those places is actually more demanding that being a CAD operator. You will be physically tired, having two jobs. Work-Sleep-Repeat.

As there are few job prospects in the sticks, you won't be able to move your career on. Bearing in mind, you can't financially support yourself properly now. You will need double your salary if you ever get married or have children.

I'm not sure why a qualified architect is in the in back of beyond trying to scrape a few coins together.

Just to clarify, my current job pays me week enough to sustain myself with some excess for savings. The reason why I thought of working part time was so I can increase my spending capacity and be able to buy a car earlier. No, I'm not being made to work in a dark, dank factory in the middle of nowhere; my full time work is involved with my architectural career (albeit, the scope of work is way smaller)

It's just in this "backside of Japan", I just have too much time and I hope you guys can point me to a way where I can convert that free time to cash so that I can get that Impreza STi and get blowjobs.

BTW: checking freelancing on upwork and being an online English tutor, so might be solving that problem soon
