Has anyone in this forum have an experience with starting a business in japan? Yes i got knowdlege of the Business Manager Visa lol which is why im curious about these cinemas... theres a bunch that went out of business...

Anyways any info, advice or even laughs are much appreciated, thanks for the response and your two cents.

an adult cinema
Most have gone out of business, the remainder are slowly dying. Thank the availability of Internet porn.

adult shop

swinger club or a bondage club,
Regulated under the adult entertainment laws, you can't legally work for them as a foreign national unless you have permanent residency or a spouse visa.

Post covid, not the smartest of investments, and you need to register it as a restaurant or it's under the same law above.

In Tokyo, 10-15 mil to start up a bar (the only of your options that you can legally do) - you'd do better to buy a failed one. Lots of those around at the moment.

I dont actually want to work for anyone, i want to own, 10-15 to start up a bar, thats really cheap. Thanks for the feedback.

Then again that is the money you need to invest in the beginning and the only thing it guarantees is you get to lose another 10 million in the first year. After that it is a race to see which one runs out first; your lease which is normally two years or your money.

I’m morbidly fascinated with how you bring gloom over people’s dreams with logic and reason. :p

hey the point isnt to make millions of yen lol im actually wanting to throw money at a franchise or business in order to apply for that business manager visa..

I rather hear the honest truth, im still motivated.. i really really do not want to marry a japanese female and wait 3 yrs for that permanent citizenship... tho it is the easier and cheapest route...

You just used a long sentence to say spoilsport.

Trust me a met a few and have friends tell me horror stories lol, maybe in the long run but not now... thus my only option is the business manager position.

I mean not everyone is moving to japan for the pussy lol i hear its pretty easy to get... im going at it with a long term view.... need someplace fun to live while.....yes. (y)

What you need then in practice is to have a career in some other country in the area you wish to open a business in Japan. So if you want to open a bar you need to show them you know how to manage one. And you cannot be tending the bar yourself as you are going to be the manager, not an employee. And you actually have to make money in order to renew your visa too.

It's my job spilling over... I'm basically paid to say no to people.

Bearing in mind that every investment I’ve ever made is turned to crap, I wonder if there’s gonna be a big opening up. After the Kumamoto earthquake, the Local fetish bar really did booming business and is doing pretty well despite Covid. (I believe). Apparently, brushes with death seem to increase the libido. I’m wondering if there’s going to be a big uptick after Covid and adult themed businesses would benefit. You probably need to find a Japanese business partner and I don’t want to underestimate the challenge, but I would definitely wish you luck.

Since it sounds like you are outside of Japan & may not have a visa current you should consult someone about if having any connection with a bar, nightlife, adult business is elegible for the visa you want.
If you want to just invest in an adult business my all means you can certainly do that. If your goal is to do something that will earn you a visa that can be completely different.

Japan is not so fun

Really, novelty wears off

They aren't - other than the bar, which is OK if it's registered as a restaurant.

Thanks for the positive input! Yeah i got experience in the bar scene, and in the adult scene in two countries so as long as there were funds i guess it could work out, matter of fact just for the adventure alone even with losses it should be fun.

Another thing I just remembered. I think it was a youtube video here, it was a Japanese version of Sharktank, and a BDSM dominatrix named Hinako made a pitch for a Fetish hotel. Someone mihgt be able to point you to the video. Hinako's twitter is @mistresshinako

I’ve had a few friends successfully go the Investor/Manager route for visas and it seems like the best bet, at least initially, would be to start something up with really low overhead.

An import/export business is ideal - all you need for the visa is the articles of incorporation, a registered business address separate from your home address in Japan (a closet sized office works for this) and the necessary startup capital in the bank. The requirements just to get and maintain the visa aren’t that insane. If you really wanted to pitch it as an “adult” business maybe do something with SM goods - there are a lot of small brands doing decent lower end leather harnesses, etc out of Eastern Europe that could sell well here and some guys doing extremely nice high end leather cuffs and accessories here that might do well overseas.

Then once you are on the ground here and have a decent network you can start on the bigger projects, like a bar or club or whatever.

Yes but if we were all cheerful wide-eyed optimists here we would not even think about P4P and still trying to get free action :D

Nope not yet. I thought it is not legal in the country. Ohh it is a nice business but it can also be dangerous because of people who are not in the right mind. Well, it is a good business tho haha since it is like a taboo topic,, it might even attract more customers. Just like Bitcoin, there are a lot of skeptics about it. Been reading about it and there is also news that the adult industry is using it, I just don't know if japan is using it aswell.

Oh, wouldn't you be more ambitious, please? Millions of yen are what a mediocre salary man usually makes over a year.
Perhaps that is what he implied.
"hey the point isnt to make millions of yen lol; [the point is to make trillions of yen!]"
