I have been a member of the Kirari group for over 3 years. To join, you need to be able to speak Japanese and have a cellfon. These cafes can be found in all the big centres of Tokyo, with 3 in Shinjuku and 3 in Shibuya.
You pay 2000 to join and go into a room with a 2-way mirror. You can see the girls but they cant see you. The name, age and interests of the girl will be posted on a card on the wall. If you want to interview a girl, you fill in a form to give to the bell hop and he will seat you in a private booth where you got 5 minutes maximum to strike a deal.
The girls are usually in their l8 teens or 20s and what's good is that you can actually meet them first instead of have to choose from a photoshop job. Many of the girls are students. If you and a girl agree on a date, you pay the cafe 2000 which I guess you could call a barfine.
Some girls wont want to go with you, probably bcoz you are gaijin. Other girls will not want to shag and expect 5000 to be taken out for one hour to a cafe or restaurant. The going r8 for a shag is 20,000. The Japanese term for this is "wari-kiri".
I have never had much luck in these places. Ideally, I want to take a girl out for drinks and chow somewhere and then, if we hit it off, take her to a love hotel. My first question in the interview booth is always "jikan arimasu-ka" (Do you have time) and typically they will say about one hour. Only twice have I ever met girls who wanted to go out on a proper date, the first time she got so ratassed that I had to carry her home, the second time my wife rang so had to cut it short.
A lot of the girls in these places are regulars, and not very nice people. Obnoxious in fact and very mercenary. When a girl who has just joined walks in, the bell hop usualy comes into the mens room and does a "junken" among all interested parties to see who gets to talk to her first.
I have never seen another gaijin in these places although once interviewed a half African/J-girl who was a fat bitch. I have never had any problems with the other Japanese punters in these places, and in any case they are more likely to succeed than me. Can never forget being turned down by this lovely young thing whoo consequently left with an old Japanese guy who looked like the cat had dragged in.
