First Time Joiner

Hi. Read around the site a bit, and I finally am graduating from the rest of the lurkers here. I will be going to Japan for the fifth time come post-Christmas, and speak Japanese fairly well. Any recommendations for places just outside of Tokyo or off the beaten path within would be greatly appreciated.
