So, in the states many big chain hotels block certain adult websites when you use a hotels wifi. Also, they
track the sites that you web browse.
One negative thing in many states hotels you can be asked to leave because you are using adults sites and they feel that your promoting escorting from you're hotel room. In which the hotel wants "No" part of.

Has anyone ever experienced this Japan hotels?

I have never experienced it in a Japanese hotel, but would also not want to rule it out on principle. I assume it would largely depend on the venue. If any filtering is done, you would probably see a clear error message indicating something to that effect.

Consider using a VPN if you are worried. There is a web browser called Opera that has a free VPN built in if I remember correctly. Never used it though. Alternatively you could use a Japanese SIM card for mobile Internet access. I seriously doubt anyone would care to monitor what sort of personal business you were up to using a mobile connection.

Do note that the available computers in places like manga cafés are normally using quite strict monitoring software where the owner can literally see the contents of your screen and could interact with your open programs. Just as a heads-up... :cautious:

I don't think hotel cares
if they don't want you to surf adult sites, they can just block the internet access to the sites

Personally I always assume any public Wi-Fi is 100% untrustworthy and being monitored by everyone from the NSA to the KGB, and whatever the Japanese equivalent is.

I host a VPN at my home and always connect to it and route all traffic through it when on public Wi-Fi. Also when using mobile data.
