So the other day my work schedule coincided with the availability of one of my regulars that I haven't seen in ages, and as is our usual, we split the time between naughty delights and great conversation.

A topic that came up was the increase in tourist traffic.

Her observation was that the tourists - in particular the Chinese - without fail opt for the shortest course but want to try every option on the menu. With shower time before and after, this leaves them on average 25-30 minutes in which they expect to explore everything on offer, and half the time they have to change it up so quickly that they don't get off and get sent packing with blue balls when she has another booking.

I get wanting to optimise cost performance, but really... why rush it?

(And funnily enough, she's a Japanese woman fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. Can't speak a lick of English.)

Coming from an extremely cheap environment, I can understand. I don't do things like that, but I know people who do, who think their money is so important that they don't want to waste a cent more than "necessary" to get what they want.

For some things, that's no big deal. You don't want to spend more than $30 for shoes? Fine. But when you're talking about leisure activities, I can never understand wanting to penny pinch to the extent that you can no longer enjoy what you're paying for. Why spend money at all at that point?

Time with women is to be savored, not scarfed down like a meal between jobs.

The thing with Chinese people is I think many of them actually derive some pleasure in thinking they got the "best deal".

p4p is one of the few things i don't cheap out on.

Haha true. Went there last week and the tax refund counter was packed full of chinese tourists who were willing to wait a very long time for probably just a few thousand yen... (I didnt even bother as soon as i saw how long the line was).
Haha thats true. Japanese consumption tax is so low compared to Europe that i wonder why people bother to try to get the discount.

The issue is that it's all new money. These are people who used to have to pinch every penny to survive, and they're suddenly flush with cash. It takes a little longer to train that sort of behavior out.
Oh it is a difficult habit to shake... and sometimes comes in useful not to shake it but you shouldn’t shoot yourself in the leg.

Bit of an aside here, but in a meeting the other day, some data from the Japan research center predicts that the number of foreign room nights in hotels will surpass the number of Japanese room nights in 2021-22, and by 2030 the inbound room nights will be 1.7 times more than Japanese nationals.

The queues at the tax refund counters are only gonna get longer.

This makes me wonder if "fuck a Japanese woman" (for whatever reason) is just a bucket list item for many Chinese.

It is. Japanese porn (the unpixelated kind) is huge in China, and while sex is readily available in China, it generally is of the vanilla variety. The divergence of what you see on the screen, and what you get in bed seeks an outlet. The Chinese woman usually is assertive, often domineering, while the Japanese woman has an image of being subservient, and kinky. The marketing methods of the fuzoku trade play into that image.

I work with tons of mainland chinese, and they treat "services" and "material value" differently, they would never want any "material items" to be cheap because they can't brag about how expensive it is.
That’s depressing. People with a good heart will always be happy to pay more for a service because people are more important than things.

I have to say this is not my personal experience with Chinese people though. Most have been generous tippers actually so i suppose some outgrow the stinginess.
Yeah, there's exceptions to all generalizations. Also I'm not sure if you're talking about mainland Chinese, but imo they often behave very differently to Chinese raised elsewhere. Not so much a race thing. Or....maybe you're just good at melting the stingiest of hearts :p

Well, inflation has hit the formerly extremely affordable Chinese sex trade quite hard. The cost of an evening in a high class Chinese sauna can now exceed the price of a Tokyo soapland. Tokyo has an image of being expensive, therefore, I can imagine that a flush Chinese punter expects to pay more in Tokyo, and out of surprise, he tips generously.

Might not be mainland Chinese (Chinese from the repuvlic of China), there are those from the mainland that do but only if they are absurdly rich. It's a cultural thing that's been there for ages.

Chinese usually say it if they are from Hongkong or Taiwan, and they speak better English.

I met two guys who barely spoke English, everything was done by translator. One guy booked two hours, but only popped once then spend the rest of the time talking to me by translator.
The other guy didn’t expect MSOG was ok, so when i seduced him to go again, he was very happy and insisted on giving me even more.

I have not had any mainland Chinese guys go for my 40 minutes course.

Yeah, I guess there are always going to be those who are generous or don't mind paying a premium for good service. Many are also willing to spend heaps getting medical procedures done overseas, so they're not stingy with all "services". and i do remember a friend who worked at the casino telling me he sometimes got huge tips (which he had to decline) by the high roller PRC. These are the guys who can afford to throw around $1k chips though...

This is soooo true... reminds me of a show ‘fresh off the boat’... Pretty funny, a little racist.

No, this is a little racist.

I'm from mainland China, but I always choose 120min courses. I guess I should go for the shortest option next time and act like a Chinese.:)

That’s so strange because the Chinese tourists buy Isetan empty and are about the richest people around...

If you look close enough, you'll probably find they are mostly female Chinese tourists buying everything.
