Some emails later, I was surprised to get a response back from a company flat out asking me for an interview. I mentioned a few times in the email my Japanese wasn’t that good, but they either didn’t care or didn’t seem to pay attention and gave me a time and the address of the company building.

I’m kind of excited but also pretty nervous as I have no clue what to expect. I know a bit about traditional Japanese interview protocol, but I mean this isn’t a normal office job position. Not sure what to wear or really what to expect! I’ll even need to prepare a resume according to the email. Tips, advice, experience from anyone with knowledge would be helpful. I should also probably mention I’m a 27 year old woman, and I never see female experience with AV posted here, so all help is appreciated.

From a guy they only want a video of his previous work but I have an inkling girls might have a more practical exam at the interview.:D

Its super easy for girls to lounch this kind of job, dont worry.
You definitely don’t need perfect Japanese.

This was the only kind of job that guys tried to scout me for (and hair model once u guess, lol) until my Japanes got good. they do scout tourists even although i don’t know how they make it work legally.

You basically already have the job and you have an advantage over them. They are the ones that need you, not other way around. Being a foreigner is a wildcard that will draw more attention to their video, its not a negative. As for Japanese ability, you will likely not have to talk so much in the video and you can just memorize any script lines. With foreign girls they also often have English likes anyway because it works with the story.

What you should be careful about is that they don’t screw you over. If you can, get someone to translate your contract. Ask about money. A lot of companies pay very little for AV. Set yourself a low end limit. If you want to get into AV for other reasons, thats fine, but keep in mind that if you try to go into AV to promote yourself for another entertainment job, the cheap AVs are low end productions that will not gain you a lot of fame or fans.

Established stars can make about 100man per video, but as a beginner, i’d say try for something like 30man.

I’d advise to pass on companies that offer 15man or under, if you need the money you’re better off doing other sex work and you also wont get famous with these kind of productions.

They say "dress for the job you want" so....
I’m still not sure if I do a suit or not haha the emails were all written with proper business Japanese so I expect there’s a good level of professionalism. I’m banking on dressing nicely and wearing a nice pair of undergarments if I need to strip down later.

I’ve heard this in some places, and I’ve also heard it’s not really a great thing to encounter as some believe if they really want to hire you (not score some free sex) you shouldn’t have to. However, I get the nature of the job so it wouldn’t upset or surprise me if that was the case (seems practical to me actually). I’ll come prepared!

I’d say wearing a dress is better.

When i signed with a gravure company i showed up in pretty casual clothes and it wasn’t a problem.
I dont think they mind business either though.
I’d definitely not sleep with them, that does sound shady.

All great advice, thank you so much. Truthfully if I was able to make a video I wouldn’t care really so much if it got popular or not, it’s like a bucket list thing I want to do lol But if the opportunity presents itself, I’ll keep the money info in check.

Wow these are great! It seems pretty straight forward even with the wonky bits.

Yes, it seems to be quite straight forward.

The google-translated word "production" is a JAV talent agency. I think you are going to be interviewed by one of the agencies. Once you are successful in this interview, your acting career is managed by the agency. Before starring an actual JAV, you will go through another interview by a JAV studio (the google-translated word "manufacturer" or "maker"), sometimes by the director himself. Because the agency's function is to promote you to JAV studios, what they need to know is your basic information such as age, availability, acceptable plays to be filmed, etc. The above listed pages recommend you to tell your preference at the agency interview so that the agency can create a clear profile of you for the promotion to JAV studios....according to the above-listed websites.

My advice would be to take some friend with you, some Japanese speaker.

I wish I could, but I don’t really want to tell anyone I know on a personal level about this :x

Offer the final product in DVD format as a present and you'll have a line of fine gentlemen from TAG volunteering to accompany you!

I’d have to email the person who I was in contact with and tell him another person is showing up with me, and I feel like that would be an inconvenience, interview is next Monday. I wish I had thought of that when he arranged the date, but I’ll manage! Also I should mention this interview is with a studio(TMA), not an agency that sponsors models (even why I was more surprised I got a contacted for an interview).

I would hope it wasn’t fake, it’s at the headquarters of the studio (even checked the website) so if it is false, I imagine reception won’t be expecting me or won’t be prepared when I ask for the contacts name.

As of this post I actually two more emails from agencies, so I now have 3 interviews this weekend. Here’s hoping they don’t all end in failure

Lets us know how it goes :)

I’m sure that if you have the right visa, you can get a job easily.

There are all kinds of porn stars in Japan, even 80 years olds, so don’t worry about rejection.

Like i said, for the movie, language likely wont be a problem since they will make you play a foreigner, so you could say some sentences in English. You could be an English teacher getting it on with a student for example.
If you interview with a middle company, it might take a little time until you get chosen for a job that fits your profile, but it will most definitely happen.

The only thing i’d say again is that i wish you can understand everything in the contact, and this is also something that may concern legit companies.

I've actually appeared in an AV couples vid, but as Alice said, it is 1000% easier for a woman to get into the industry. We've had several foreign ladies who have appeared in AV post on TAG, but none of them are active at the moment.

I appeared in the vid with an escort friend of mine, and she did give me some insight into the process. They will most likely want to see you in your underwear or naked, so be sure to be cool about that. If you get the job, they will ask you a bunch of questions about what you are comfortable with and what is NG. Be 100% honest in this area because you don't want to get gigs you are not comfortable with.

Also, as Alice said, make sure to check about the payment and how many times you need to have intercourse (Honban/本番). If the vid you appear in will only feature you, you will be basically expected to have intercourse 3 times unless otherwise specified.

Other than that, I wish you the best of luck.

Adding that Honban kanji to my cheat sheet if I need to read anything over, thanks!

So the interview went about as expected based on the things posted here. The agency had me fill out a form, and the bottom half was all things I would be ok doing and things I wouldn’t be ok doing (because I’ve watched a decent amount of av, I could actually recognize most of the tags and genres for the sections lol but the guy who interviewed me was really good about explaining what anything I didn’t recognize was). I took some pictures with front/side/back views, only had to remove my bra. They had to get a shot of my butt, and the top area of my front spot( I think to check if it was shaved, etc). He said he would be in contact with me in about a week. It was a pretty cool process, I think the highlight was his asking me if there were any av actresses I liked and I told him the agency repped one of my faves and he seemed really surprised I knew who she was. Now I play the waiting game, thanks for all the insight again, despite the language barrier it all went much smoother than I anticipated :)

Hope you get the job! :)

May we ask who that fav av actress of yours is?

Good luck! Does TAG get to help chose your stage name?

Have to get something to even consider that possibility, open to suggestions though. From what I’ve seen often the agency has a small hand it in.

If you get a shoot, please supply a blow by blow recounting of the experience.

Pun intended.

;)

A lot of my faves are retired (Yuma Asami, and Rio for example) but one who is currently active that I like is Nina Nishimura.

Asami Yuma is one of the legendary JAV stars from the 2000s. She even did a vid with white actors once. It's glad to see that she's enjoying a second life outside of JAV now after she was forced to retire due to health reasons.

Anway, here's a recent post I did about her if you are interested.
