Forgot about this amusing story while in Shanghai. As I was purusing one of the street flea markets, where they place their wares on a blanket on the ground, an old dude singles me out, grabs my arm and motions me to his spot of stuff on the ground. He picks up a small old looking book. It only had about 10 pages as each page was about half a centimeter thick, like a baby's children's book. He opened up a page and it is old vintage cartoon porn, like Ming dynasty style shit. The old guy nudged me with his elbow and gave me the creepy old guy laugh.

So it is either one of two things. All chinese think Americans are sex starved perverts, or I just look like one....

I just look like one....
Probably this.

I don't get the pervert vibe, but people are more shocked when I tell them I don't drink.

"You're from [home country], you must love to drink, everyone there does, right!!!?"

/rolleyes

I get the same reaction all the time as I don’t drink at all either.
„But all Germans drink, right??“

I'm just wondering...do you guys think a person is stupid when they throw blanket comments toward you?

As a black guy I get them alot, but I also know it's just conversation starters, or attempts at being funny which it usually is.id rather be around someone who generalizes a bit and is funny then an overly uptight sensitive person.

I also know the other party isn't necessarily stupid when they do this . But I sometimes think some people do categorize such people as stupid.

So how do you guys react?

Very good example of why I keep my mouth shut and let the other person just let me know REALLY who they are, haha.
I don't like to generalize people that I meet, but some just generalize themselves with in a minute of a first meeting. They just cannot help themselves. :ROFLMAO:

And you would be correct.

Yes I agree..but I've met many whose anxiety dampens their intelligence, and also those who act 'stupid' to be funny.

That's fairly easy to pick-up on though, if I sense someone is too tense, then I'd try and bring them down a bit and make them comfortable. And yet again, acting 'stupid' to appear comical, probably easy to read to an extent.

I try not to categorize people unless I have to. Or, at least lower or remove all expectations and just see what happens.

Haven’t touched a drop in over 30 years, and whenever the subject comes up I always get the question “Are you Mormon?”

Oh... the Mormon questions. Yeah, I’ve gotten those too. The rage my eyes boils when someone brings that up around me. :cautious:

I'm an American that has lived and worked in Shanghai for 2 years and never once has something like this happened to me.

Your story is hilarious. :ROFLMAO:

I knew this was becoming a rhetorical question as I was typing it..
No, I beg to disagree. Your tribe , for the most part, really looks like sex-starved perverts :)
... and that’s what I love about Americans

Usually laugh it off. But if it is something that is genuinely rude / offensive, i just ask them (with a big smile) ‘i dont understand, can you explain?’ Works for any ‘joke’ that isnt really a joke and the teller is just being a dick.

I am an American and I frequently enjoy sex, therefore I am not starved. However, I might have “that look.”

One day, I was within 1/2 block of my favorite AMP, when a mildly attractive white girl walked up to me, handed me her business card and told me that she provides full body massages.

I was on a busy sidewalk and she picked me out of the crowd ...

You got it right. Except the part about people not being necessarily stupid.

hmmm....I am American and I am a sex starved pervert...so...am I the only one?

American here also living in the Puritanical States of Amen'Merica. I'm not sex-starved so much as I'm starved of good sex.

God forbid a woman over here learns how to suck a dick properly and do it without the expectation of money, gifts or other compensation in return.

There's something seriously wrong with this country. We sexualize everything on TV, women are walking around with their asses and titties hanging out and yet everyone's a fucking prude when the time comes to put out. It doesn't surprise me that American dudes have a reputation as horny ass freaks. The pussy we're getting over here has the parental controls on and we lost the remote so we can't turn it off.
