I visited Japan back in March for a month and had an amazing time. I learned a lot about what I like to do, and who I want to be around. I will be going again in March again...but for a week this time. I am a large (XXL) man who is very animated and excited about everything. I got a large beard and I am always smiling and complimenting everyone I meet. I think my outgoing nature made a lot of people who I talked to uncomfortable/intimidated. I understand that people in Japan are more reserved and more humble, but I can't stop smiling at everything and complimenting people (That shirt is so cool, I like your hair, This food/drink is amazing you rock, You're awesome at xxx video game, etc). I felt a lot more comfortable at the airbnb's and escort services because they loved speaking passionately about things.

I guess my question is, what should I watch for the next time I go? What types of gestures and tones should I limit/avoid? What are some things I can do/say to show my pleasure/appreciation for something.

keep going, you sound awesome. Only boring or fake people keep everyone happy all the time.

The only thing you want to make sure as a big guy is not to get too close when you are talking. Especially girls might think you are scary and then nobody will have fun.

Despite what you would think after getting in to a rush hour train in Tokyo the Japanese have one of the largest personal distance zones in the world.
