Hi! I guess this was a question here before - but how does one get a LINE account as a foreigner? My apple ID got banned from LINE for now apparent reason and apparently its quite common. That leaves you with either x or mail to get in touch. Has anybody found workarounds?

I wasn't aware there were any foreigner restriction for Line (I am in the US). From what I recall, you use to be able to sign up for Line account w/ your mobile number, but that change last year. Not really sure what you did to get your Apple ID banned. I believe now line only allows Apple ID on IOS or Google Account on Android. https://help.line.me/line/?contentId=20027021&lang=en

Sorry "as a foreigner" means "not a Japan resident"?
Because I am a foreigner in Japan with a visa and a phone number and zero issues using LINE.
No idea about LINE outside of Japan though I have friends in the USA and Thailand etc who successfully use it.

Can't you use your local phone number to register? That's what I did for mine.

Nevermind just saw the other post, what about email?

Is there just a lot of over reported cases of peoples LINEs being banned since the end of foreign phone number registration? I've had my LINE account for a while using my American phone number and have had no problems using it while in America messaging to Japan and vise Verda while my SIM is switched out for my temporary wifi SIM (doubt this would play a role, but might as well note it)

I had mine for years too. I think as long as you already had it set-up before they stopped phone number registration you are safe.

I don't know what the restriction is specifically, but I created a LINE account on my US number on an iOS device with no issues.

The latest steps ask you to selection country where your phone is (US) > Next, you select which country you reside in (I chose US because the phone belongs to US carrier) > Next, verify account through Apple > Set Account Password (LINE) > Set Name/Profile PIc > Account setup is done.

Don't have access to a Android device at the moment, so can't speak to that process,

I've had a lot of trouble using Line on a US iPhone. My account got locked out last year while trying to set it up and they were no help. Tried again this year (I'm back in Japan) and was able to set it up using my Apple ID, but got a "Your country doesn't support adding a phone number" error when trying to add my phone number. Now, 2 months later, I don't even see an option in the app to add a phone number. It's working fine with my Apple ID, but I can't easily connect with friends that are in my iPhone contacts and are using Line via their phone number. It's been a big mess. Maybe they've made some recent changes to clean it up, but it still doesn't seem to support my US phone number.

Some extra notes in case anyone needs them:

After creating a LINE account, they only allow switching between mobile numbers from certain countries. But that's not a big problem.

In my experience, for non-Japanese residents, there are advantages to registering a LINE account using a foreign number (for P4P), #1 being that you won't have to do the almost impossible age-verification process through your network provider to unlock some LINE functions. One such function is "Add friend by LINE ID", for the life of me idk why it is adult-only.

Why is this useful? Because for 姫予約, some girls forget or choose not to put the QR code, and only list their LINE ID. For foreigner non-residents on the Japanese version of LINE, it would be almost impossible to add the girl's account, but it is 100% possible for a foreign-number LINE to add her via ID search.

For the record, I've tried registering and switching LINE accounts between numbers from 4 countries, incl Japan. On iOS, can't comment on Android. (And if you think your Apple ID is somehow banned on LINE, just make a new Apple ID)
