Proper dress shoes

RM Williams chelsea boots - all day, every day. Nothing they don’t go with. The pointy toe stuff is awful....
They don't go with shorts. But I agree Chelsea boots are great and a perfect alternative to loafers or wingtips for the confident man.

Actually, there was a historic reason for pointy-toed shoes. They make is easier to get your foot in a stirrup when mounting a horse.

Or if they're a proper redneck, to kick shit in the corners.

Steve Jobs did us all a big favor. Turtleneck, jeans, and most important of all, New Balance 1400s. You can change it up to chinos and un-ironed cotton button down or polo shirt if you want. Just dont look like a dork and dont look slovenly. Play your gaijin card. Wear it with confidence. Wear a suit once a week just to prove that you still have one. And keep one in the office just in case you have to go out and meet some uptight asshole who happens to pay you alot of money.

I sometimes wear masculine shoes (these are oxfords) for women with Mary Jane heels :)

My feet have a weird thick shape anyway so all of them hurt even weeks after buying them.

Have you ever considered customs? I have a friend with a similar affliction, he started getting his shoes custom made, and he's never looked back. They cost a little more, but they last longer than mass produced and fit perfectly.

Good advice. Yeah thinking about it now.

Shiny black shoes are for Nazis, other assorted fascists and old economy business geriatrics. Chacos or New Balance. If they are ‘inappropriate’ for your situation, then change your situation.

Thanks Sudsy. Hopefully lasting more than the memory of a similarly priced escort date :D

Given how long you've carried that particular torch, that would indeed be a quality pair of shoes. :D

Given that I'm HR, most people assume I fall firmly into the first and/or second category. Gotta maintain the image.

HR is part of a business (usually) so don’t assume you escape the third category too. :D

Ah ah, I was not even thinking about any particular date , but I totally understand why you assumed so :)

I'm not geriatric. Yet. ;)
He is an HR guy who wears shiny black shoes and visits P4P and probably porn sites while at work. He has probably fired people for doing exactly this. He kicks them in the ass on their way out the door.....with his shiny black shoe. He’s definitely a fascist.

TAG isn't on our list of forbidden sites. Oddly enough, Facebook is..... and FWIW, I've never recommended termination for net activity of any kind, unless it was actual piracy or other illegal acts using company equipment.

But my wife said the moustache makes me look like Charlie Chaplin!

I'm tempted to go to the (equivalent of the) genkan and see what color my shoes are...

I don't have to go; mine are black. As are all my suits. We do live in a society after all.

Pointy shoes are just a fad... just like brown shoes are common for people in sales (currently) Don't ask me why they are just seems that way to me. I've only bought 1 pair of dress shoes in Tokyo and still have them, admittedly they are getting a little worn, otherwise, I prefer to buy shoes at a nice little shop in Florence, Italy while on holiday... sadly tho, the leather soles seem to be getting thinner and thinner.. or maybe I'm getting heavier which makes it seem like the soles don't last as long... hmmm... Chelsea boots are ok, but too Closter phobic for my dogs... they need some air... Synthetic soles are blasphemous... but I've succumb to getting the leather soles replaced with synthetic... in Thailand, Vietnam, and Philippines (much cheaper). I certainly keep them polished and ready.... learned from my grandfather... He always told me you can tell a lot by a man based on the condition of his shoes... I think some may say it doesn't matter... but to me, it still does... One should take pride in their appearance. It's amazing how the airlines treat you if you have a suit on... I know I've been bumped to 1st class on several occasions.... Like if a woman wears a hat on flight (no not a beenie ) If you take the time to dress well and you throw on a beat up tired looking shoe, then what's the point... IMO.... Have a polishing kit in my closet for black, brown, blue , oxblood and clear... Mink oil for the soft leather as it helps on those rainy days... and a suede brush for the well... suede... even old shoes look better if they have a fresh shine to them again IMO... Ain't no school like Old School.... except maybe the school of Hard Knocks.. or is Knox ? ?
