I had a pleasant walk in Roppongi early Sunday morning. I looked up, down and around.

This tree with a camouflage-pattern bark needs some love.

It was fun, Tokyo.
I achieved two out of three in my short to-do list this trip.
Thank you once more to my TAG comrades for the encouraging words and positive vibes, following my disastrous date last Friday.
Looking forward to a rosier, brighter departure from Haneda on my next trip.

Reminiscing about my past visit to the beautiful and serene Sankei-en, also known as the Three Creeks Garden, located in Yokohama’s Naka Ward.
This traditional Japanese-style garden, spread over a total surface of 175,000 square meters, was opened in 1906. It was designed and built by a silk trader, Tomitaro Hara, who was known by the pseudonym Sankei Hara.

Beautiful shot, @Simonka.
That image of Tokyo Tower has got a BLADE RUNNER kind of vibe.
Thank you and a big thank you to my client who let me stay in his room for a little longer to take these photos :)

Indeed. Back in the day when Tokyo had much more colorful/rich street life, hand-drawn/pushed food stalls and open air izakaya and street peddlers with their wares spread out on the sidewalks etc, it could look and feel incredibly BLADE RUNNER - esque, especially on rainy and misty nights. I miss that Tokyo, felt much more exotic, unpredictable, exciting and even rough than today's relatively tame atmosphere. Or maybe it is just the view through the screen of my memory.

Those sadly went away because they were one of the primary ways organised crime used to launder money. :(

Okachimachi still fits into that picture.

Yeah...and they had that feel to them, don't ya think? :( is right. Food was great and affordable too.

I wish I had taken some photos back in that era to post here, but of course back then taking a photo required film and processing, both a bit expensive, so one rarely took a picture without some fairly specific purpose in mind.

Yeah, somewhat but not quite the same... Also some places north of the Chuo Sen in Kichi Joji and Golden Gai a little bit too. Places under the tracks around Shinjuku and Yurakucho as well. But none of them quite catches the old Tokyo street life feeling imo. Getting nostalgic in my old age I guess.

The ranks and ranks of vending machines and (mostly) green pay phones were a part of the scenery mostly gone too.

Who here, on TAG, still has vivid memories of Tokyo in the 90s and even 80s or before?
