Scammed In Shinjuku

Happened to see this report. This scam isn't just done by Nigerians, but by Japanese guys too.

These are Japanese guys that stand at the corners of streets. They are not Izakaya boys, but scam artists that have pictures of women.

They seem to move around. Like a few days in Shinjuku, then go somewhere else. They come to Shinjuku at random intervals.

I got scammed by these guys 30 000 yen. Never ever gonna talk to guys in the streets again who try to sell sex. They are sharks out to get you. Never talk to Japanese guys. 1 guy show you photo & then another take money & then ask for insurance money for girl & then another ask for room money. Evil scam.

The 1st red flag should have been the insurance money for the girl & 2nd red flag room money.

Play it safe and make your own arrangements with a service mentioned in other recommended TAG postings.

There are so many good options to choose from there's no need to entertain these street solicitors for a second. Even if we discount scams, you know that any legit service working off that model would provide horrible service. Quality services don't seem to need someone to hustle so hard.

So, I second this. Stop much to choose from for that scene.

I've also had a night of sour experiences in Kabukicho. I'm gonna have to say to never trust the guys on the street trying to sell you on amazing girls for low prices. Especially, don't trust those African guys. The asian guys aren't very good either, but just know if he's African, he's probably trying to scam you. It's best to do a little research and specifically decide which service provider you want and seek them out specifically, because those guys aren't your friend.

I'd be hard pressed to think of any place on this planet where street touts are the best way to go...

There are VASTLY more ASIAN guys perpetrating this street scam than Africans.

There are very FEW Africans walking about in Shinjuku. Of those Africans, many are CLUB/BAR owners or work directly for a club/bar. They are usually trying to have you come to their place.

Same for Roppongi. People will see 6 Africans on a street where they own clubs, and act like they just encountered an African army trying to overthrow the government of Japan. LOL.

The Asian guys on the street doing this scam are often freelancers or gang-related, and are way more frequent. The only reason they are slow to approach foreigners sometimes, is that their English is bad. And they are hustling a lot of Japanese guys, so don't necessarily need Western victims.

Some Asian scam artist do speak English, and depending on the time of the month, they will make an effort to scam tourists. The Asian scam artists are on some type of location rotation schedule. While often you will see the same African guys, in the SAME spot, somewhere near their club/bar. Which makes the Africans much more easily identifiable and less likely to steal money and run.

The Asian scammers, get your money (often as insurance or up front payment) and then run (move to their next scam location).

where they will use intimidation or drugs to extort money from you.

LOL! I'm not a tourist, I live in Tokyo, and have so for YEARS. Been to Shinjuku last week, and can't count how many times I've been there.

I think we need to get past the misplaced Black attack and freaking out whenever more than 2 Africans are seen in public. Japanese and other Asians are all over the place in Shinjuku running scams and doing pushy sales. This is Japan. The few Africans do NOT compare to the multitude of Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese in the area.

If the eyes are open and a person can understand Japanese, you will see Asian guys pushing Izakaya restaurants, host bars (even grabing and blocking women), drugs, selling women (with picture album in hand), etc... all over the place... And as soon as you get out of the Shinjuku JR east exit or nearby san-chome train exits.

It's possible to buy drugs in Japan? Who'd have thought? I guess they are available everywhere.

Japan does NOT have the problem like the U.S. and other countries. It's often softer stuff like molly and reefer. And the Japanese cops will descend like insane obsessed locusts upon the person, group, or organization. But on the downlow, there are foreign Asian gangs and dealers.

in my opinion. the nigerian guys isnt much of a threat compared to the japanese touts (being a gaijin in japan)
these japanese touts offers you things u havent heard of, things u didnt know exists and thats where they get ur attention.
japans sex industry's isnt as simple like other countries. i myself got ripped off twice in kabukicho.
it wasnt a too good to be true kind of deal, but more of a "hmm.... i like to see what thats like"
like someone said may this be an expensive way of learning a lesson.

Yes the Japanese touts may be more dangerous to an uninformed gaijin.
However, the "feeling" of being threatened is much higher with Nigerians touts because they are more persistent, or ven at times threatening, while Japanese touts do not pursue gaijins with physical or verbal abuse, like Nigerians can occasionnally do.
In my case, when a jaanespe tout pesters me too much, I just ask "honban daijobu desuka?" and this is enough to scare him away...

You didn't answer the question.

When was the last time you were in Kabukicho?

The African guys tend to be more concentrated than the Japanese and other asian ones, perhaps because the police don't tolerate them operating except in a few restricted areas. As a result there can be more African touts on a given block or partial block even though there are far more J/asian ones in the overall neighborhood.

Thankfully, I managed to avoid the scams. The only street trouts you can trust are the ones working inside the information centers.

You didn't answer the question.

When was the last time you were in Kabukicho?

Was there last week, will be hanging out in the area today. When was the last time you were there?

And as a matter of fact, where did you see the Africans that you claimed scammed you/are selling fake women?

Let's identify this spot of the "legion of Africans committing unspeakable crimes". Because I see Asians everwhere in Kabukicho and east Shinjuku, not Africans. The only guys that I've seen with the fake photo album full of women, have been Asian guys.

Let's indentify this African army with photo albums of women, and we can all go see for ourselves.

I hope you don't mean by the HUB and 7-11 Bank, and connecting street, because I will fall out from laughter. There are few Africans there, and they are club owners, managers, and workers. Plus, there is a CAMERA watching that street.

Or do you mean the few Africans that are near and across the street from Pasela Resorts (shinjuku-kuyakusho-dori)? Same deal...

Those Africans can own strip bars and hostess bars, so want people to COME INTO their place. They are not conducting the street scam of pretending to sell women, taking money, and running. The Africans in that area are too well known to get away with that. If they scam, it's inside their bar and charging for drinks. Which many Japanese bars are doing nearly the same.

There are some Africans that will act as "guides/tour guides", if you ask them for directions or to go to a certain type of place. That's because they can speak English and will talk to Western tourists more than many Japanese/Asian guys on the streets. Those Africans will direct you to places where they can get a commission for introducing new customers. They don't take your money and run off, because they are there every day. You might get scammed in the bar they took you to, but not usually on the street (because the Africans are more afraid/aware of cameras).

The Asian (not always Japanese) hustlers, try to get you to pay them on the street and BEFORE they send you some place to supposedly meet women. If they direct you to a bar, it's often a Yakuza controlled bar, that you are endanger of being beaten up if you go in there or they pretend not to know the Asian guy that took your money.

I'm very familiar with the Kabukicho area...

And it's not really that many Africans. I think some people are not used to seeing Blacks, so vastly over estimate their number. The number of Africans in the area, in no way compares to the number of ASIANS all over the place. This is Japan.

Those Africans are "tolerated" because they own businesses in those areas. They are not just randomly taking over a street. The Japanese police know just about every one of them, because they are always in that area. For the most part, the Africans have an obvious good relationship with the police in the area

Then obviously you're blind.

When was the last time you were there?
Most weeks. Next time I'll count Africans and report back .

I didn't say that.

Quotation marks are supposed to indicate quoted speech, not something you just made up.

Refer to what I actually wrote.

I'm very familiar with the Kabukicho area...
Yes, you're an expert on everything.

@psd

Apologies, if I misinterpreted what you typed.

However, counting the number of Africans walking around Kabukicho in comparison to Asian guys trying to sell something. Should clear up any misconceptions about that right away.

Africans and the Asian guys on the street are not running the same scams from what I've seen. Going into a bar run by Africans, isn't the same as Asian guys promising to introduce women and then running if you give them money.

And I agree and have typed about some of the African owned or managed bars pulling scams. Casablanca, in Kabukicho, is one them. In there, they are running the champagne scam. Secret hostess females, who has deal with African manager, flirting with guys to buy her 30,000 yen champagne.

The OP was referring to the street scam of pretending to introduce women for the night and then running when they get money. From what I've seen, this is usually done by Asian/Japanese guys. Just saying... I think it's better if people were more aware of who might try to pull this on them.

Awhile back when I first moved to Tokyo, I'm pretty sure I got scammed hardcore by a Japanese guy. He pulled me aside, asked what I was looking for and I told him Happy Hinomaru. He gave me some directions, then went on to tell me the girls there weren't pretty and if I was willing to pay a bit more, he could take me to a better pink salon with prettier girls. To my knowledge, I had only heard of one pink salon in the area so I was like "Really? I've heard gaijin aren't allowed in those kind of places." He went on to tell me that this place was pretty new and it was about 5 minutes away. We made friendly conversation and he seemed like a nice dude. Wasn't intimidating at all. Told me to look out for the Nigerians because they'll try to scam you (lol).

Anyway, he brings me to this place (sorry can't remember the name). Tells me there's only one girl that sees gaijin and if I thought she wasn't hot I could just walk away. Huge bouncer guy at the front lets me take a peak inside and the girl is definitely a 10/10 so I'm like "fuck yeah". Remember, I still think this place is a pink salon. I go inside and the place is completely empty. It's past 6pm so I thought that was pretty weird, but the place definitely looks really high class. Girl sits down and talks to me and asks if I'd like a drink. I don't drink alcohol, so I declined, but then she asked if I'd buy her a drink. Sure, whatever, not like I haven't done that before.

After about five minutes of awkward conversation she asks if I'd like to leave with her. I'm like "Uhhh that's not what I came here for, I just want a bj." The girl is extremely persistent and I can't really understand her English well. At the time, I deducted she was trying to tell me that they don't do it in the club and that we'd have to leave. I've already paid 10,000 yen at this point, so I figured there was no going back. On my way out the same bouncer dude is insisting I pay 10,000 more yen. I don't understand so the girl tells me it's for a VIP membership. I'm like "Nah, I'm good." because I already don't plan on coming back (I also didn't have that much on me). We go at each other for about 5 minutes and this guy looks like he's about to kick my ass if I don't pay him. He and a couple of others escort me to an ATM to get the money.

Long story short, I end up getting forced to pay more cash for a hotel room and a FS. I got escorted back to the ATM like 3 times during this whole ordeal. I was so pissed to the point where I didn't even enjoy it. The girl was nice and after it was all done she told me to stay away from the club and contact her directly next time. Suffice to say, I don't ever intend on doing that. Like I said, I don't know if the dude was actually a scammer or if it was just the club, but it doesn't really matter.

Moral of the story: Do your research and don't walk into any place you haven't heard of even if the girl inside is smoking hot.

Hey bro welcome to the board (y)

We have been talking about Kabukicho scams in the past few weeks on other threads. I cant remember which ones but u should b able to find pretty easily.

The kinda scam u got caught in happens all the time in Kabukicho. It's only recently that Japanese touts have latched on2 gaijins and considered them as equal prey. When in the area, only ever use the 無料案内所 info centres, none of the street touts can be trusted irregardless of nationality

You have my sympathies. But at least on the bright side, your posting that means less guys falling for that in the future.

I'm really glad I'm only into escorts. The pink salon, bj cafe type places seem to be much riskier, but then again as I've only had escorts I wouldn't know.
