Hi all,
Told myself I would write tonight a bit about the local Adult movie theater in old ancient Kyoto
For the ones not familiar with it, it is located in the north west side of the city, sort of close to the Nijo area.
Here's the adress (paste from Google map so it's in Japanese) and its website for the ones ready for the mission!

Went there a couple of times and I must say than when it comes to the movies itself they were actually not bad at all, with one being even sort of porn/arty with a real scenario!
The theater itself is a sort of small local institution, located off a main street in a small residential neighborhood.
Quite explicit posters cover the facade and once in, one is greated by a vending machine selling 600 yens tickets to get in once you've passed an 60 something man behind its counter.
The place itself must have been built around the late 60s, early 70s. It seems to me (I've been there only twice though) that they have recently changed the seats. They used to be old wooden/fabric ones and they are now full fabric ones. Don't know about that on the long haul though
Once in you can enter the main theater, dimly lit with usually a local crowd of all ages doing their own thing on their seats. There is a sort of kinky, old-school atmosphere that I really like about these old places (cf. my review of the local erotic show on TAG). Last time I went there, a crossdresser was around and was getting busy with an older gentleman. Absolutely not my cup of tea but why not for them after all. I just minded my business.
On that side, there's an upper level on the balcony, it costs 100 yens extra to get there and according to some of my local Japanese friends, it would be a Gay cruising spot (even though the movies shown there are male/female only). They also told me that the place was famous for its crossdressers but I saw only one of them the two times I was there.
Over all and for that price, I would recommend visiting it if you're around to see a remain of the past. An era when porn was not widely available on handheld devices in a split second!
