*sigh* Soft Power and selling your brand, then failing at it.

I must have blinked and missed that
I agree they are not favorable to him, but it’s not their job to be. And who can seriously say that the NYT is a trashy , lying tabloid?
Besides a paper based in New-York probably had a better view of what kind of businessman and person he was.
It’s telling that 70% or 80% of New Yorkers (sorry cant recall the exact number) didnt vote for him. Even if it’s a majority-democrat city. Usually the homegrown guy gets better results than elsewhere , in most elections I’ve heard of.

Maybe you're right. It is kind of funny when they grudgingly print something that is postive about Trump. It's rare, but it does happen. You can tell they only do it to keep up a facade of impartiality. Still, I can't think of any major US paper that does a believable job of explaining anything Trump does in a positive way. Can you?

I think it was 93%. It was in the 90's anyway. To most New Yorkers, he was/is a curiosity at best. He just sat in his Tower all day eating over cooked steaks and watching TV. Not really a New Yorker.

I’m technically one of those New Yorkers. As I mentioned earlier we knew since the 80s that he is a goon.

Even if it’s a majority-democrat city.
One NYC local election the Democratic candidates was convicted of massive fraud and the republican candidate died between the ballot being printed and Election Day. Guess who won?

Maybe you're right.

It’s not just about Trump, on many topics they have given up any pretense of impartiality. Their Japan reporting is especially bad.

To be fair, those three went down as evil.

Trump will be going down as incompetent.
The 14 or so women he is alegged to have sexually assaulted would probably call him evil, but your point is of course valid.

Maybe its because us Europeans are better taken care of than American citizen even will be.

And if we talk shit about US presidents, news flash, its probably because its true and because BOTH parties are right wingers that care more about companies than about people.

Hmmn... Yet Europeans are controlled by an unelected bunch of dictators who are masters of propaganda.

The EU spends more money on 'advertising' than any other organization in the world. They control the output of the media more than most people realize. And they are diminishing the sheeples power bit by bit. Hitler would be proud of the current cabal controlling Europe. And by the way, the Eurocrats care more about Germany's economy than the 'people' of Europe.

Ask the Greeks who get their dinner out of trash cans for example. Or the the Euro women getting raped by the bogus immigrants. Sex crimes in Europe are not even being properly reported to protect the flow of cheap labor to the Euro machine. The police and media have been ordered to hide the truth.

The US system despite its faults at least is better than what the Euro sheep have.

Hey the report quoted by the NYT is not all negative, look at this very encouraging ending paragraph :):

"Trump’s initial rating places him in an ignominious category, but dozens of presidents have had slow starts and have course corrected to improve their public esteem,'' Rottinghaus and Vaughn wrote. "Beyond his reputation or ranking, Donald Trump’s very presidency may alter perceptions of presidential legacies as his unique approach to the office continues to surprise.''

Wow! I’m speechless... Where do you get your news about Europe?

He is evil in my book. Openly hateful to some specific groups and has ties with all the wrong people.

Compared to the others on that list, he's best described by theis quote from Austin Powers:

"You’re not quite evil enough. You’re semi-evil. You’re quasi-evil. You’re the margarine of evil. You’re the Diet Coke of evil, just one calorie, not evil enough."

Trump isn't anything I'd describe as "diet" or "one calorie"

I don't know.... I think he might be negative calories. Swallow a bite of him, it'll come back up with everything else in your stomach....

Ironically, Trump won the election because his opponent was perceived to be 'evil'. After all, the Clinton Foundation used millions of dollars destined for the victims of Haiti's earthquake to pay for Chelsea's wedding.

Yeah, I call that fake news too. I mean the Eurocrats don't really care about Germany or it's economy; only that they themselves remain in their seats.

It’s a shame that I browse these forums as an escape from the political insanity in the US only to run into the same here. Just in case I can prevent some poor soul from being sucked into the US political right rabbit hole, I’ve provided some links. It’s sad, but in this day and age we viewers have to take personal responsibility for fact checking, especially if the story sounds too good to be true for one side.

Trump isn’t a complete moron as the left would like to believe, he’s probably very people smart, based heavily on a lifetime of seeing how much bullshit he can get away with. The danger in terms of soft power isn’t necessarily Trump, who has been written off by most other leaders, but rather who the US elects next. If it, as I wishfully hope, acts as a wake up call to our political system, then it may have been worth the short term embarrassment. The real danger Trump poses in the long run is a lowering of the bar, a numbing of the public to mini-scandals. The issue was never if a country was or wasn’t a shithole, it was that it was inconceivably unpresidential to say it. The same goes for having alleged affairs with porn stars while your wife recovers from childbirth, or supporting alleged child molesters for office.

Lastly, John Oliver may be smug towards people who don’t agree with him, but honestly that depends on the issue. If it’s guns, immigration, or tax policy, I’ll be the first to admit it’s a nuanced issue. But there are plenty of topics where smugness and scorn are deserved: If you disagree with the overwhelming scientific world, or if you believe your feelings are as relevant or more important than facts on a topic, you deserve to be mocked until you crawl off in shame.

Sorry for the soapbox.

Nixon gets a bad rap but Watergate aside, he was actually pretty good.

With the exception of your political views, I feel you are one of the most reliable sources of information on the board.

Even I once drank the Nixon Kool Aid-in high school I represented Nixon in the mock election debate.

As noted below, not even Republicans rate Tricky Dicky that high, being around the bottom third.

As for your buddy, The Donald-he does not fare very well.:sorry:

But compared to him, I'll concede...

Nixon was not nearly as bad. At least, he was not in bed with the Russians.

Maybe replacing “evil” with “presidential” works better?;)

With the exception of your political views

I clearly differentiate my views from facts. What I said above regarding Nixon was based on accomplishments. Take a look at this list https://www.nixonfoundation.org/richard-nixons-top-domestic-and-foreign-policy-achievements/ tell me how many of those things you personally remember or not, and the things that actually were good for the US.

As noted below, not even Republicans rate Tricky Dicky that high, being around the bottom third.

To be honest, that stuff is mostly touchy feely as far as I can tell

As for your buddy,

Has the herb disturbed your reading skills? I've never said a good word about him.
