@AnnAndJason here had posted about their willingness to go to Olive21 and asked for help due to the language barrier , I thought it might be interesting to take this opportunity as this was on my bucket list.
My Japanese SB FrancophileSaint (lived many years in France and knows French slang better than me) was just back from a long stay in Paris and was down for it.
We met Jason and his lovely Filipina wife Ann in a Golden Gai bar, then after a few drinks and chitchat walked to nearby Olive21. Reminder: this is a Couple Kissa, not a Happening Bar. You can enter only as a couple (which for us was the main selling point , tired of seeing too many single men in places like BlissOut or 9259:
Frankly guys, it’s creepy. Bring a partner or stay home).
There was a (late) Valentines party event so we had to pay more than usual for the entrance fee (12000 yen per couple instead of 7000, but sushis and alcohol were included) in addition to the membership fee (5000 per couple), so total damage was 17000 yen per couole.
After reading (and translating for our guests) the lengthy rules we could finally enter. Immediately I regretted it; lets be frank this place is SMALL and when we entered it was CRAMPED AND CROWDED . Way too many people, feeling like the subway at rush hour. And it looks more like some kind of apartment than a real club (theres no bar for instance, we just helped ourselves From a bottle of Nikka whisky and soft drinks simply left on a table).
The playroom was congested , its fun to watch couples having orgy-sex but after a while it just seems like a bad Japanese porn movie, with all the fake squealing noises by the ladies.
Anyway we waited our turn for the shower, then to get some space in the playroom, did what we wanted to do, then left.
I ticked that box on the bucket list but will never come back. Clearly prefer more spacious and less amateurish happening bars like Bliss Out and 9259, even if too many single men can be offputting. Absolutely not worth the 17k I paid.
And I’m relatively certain now that similar bars overseas (Paris notably, from what I’ve heard) are better than in Japan.
