Star Trek Discovery

I failed my Klingon 101 course. They refused to teach me how to say "Today IS a good day to do two chicks at the same time!", so I left.

I believe that would be "DaHjaj QaQ jaj nga'chuq cha' be' ghaj DeSDu' rap poH!" ;)

I don't think we'll be hearing that on Discovery anytime soon though. Might have to wait for the porn parody

Yeah. And I'm not talking about the Duras sisters, earlier. I'll save my interracial 3-ways for asian girls. :ROFLMAO:

I didn't have to use a VPN, I just log-in like normal and it worked. I'm using Netflix via my Mac.

Yeah neither did I. I usually try not to use VPNs with netflix because of their crappy region censorship policies, but i do use them with Hulu, Kodi, Amazon Prime and when I am downloading stuff. vpn and the whole anonymity thing also comes in handy when i'm surfing social or any other site at a local cafe. not all the local shops and diners here have protected wifi. you can read up more on anonymity over ivacy.com/anonymous-vpn but again, netflix with vpn isn't really recommended.

Now I know why I like Discovery: It's epic war story.

With TNG and DS9 it took some time before there was a epic war story. Discovery is basically only a war story, which shows the emotional side by having difficult characters like Burnham and Lorca.

Have to admit, it's getting more and more interesting that they're doing the whole season as a story arc with all the twists they're throwing in there.
Glad that they renewed it for a second season.

Kind of wondering that they'll do next, because the original idea for this new series was to be sort of an anthology - and not always with the same crew. Like one season was supposed to be before Classic Trek, another season would be during the same time as Kirk and Spock, another during TNG and then beyond.

If they show things after Nemesis I would be a very happy man.

One of my favorite episodes was when DS9 did the crossover into the Tribbles episode of Classic Trek. Think would be cool if they could figure out a way to do that again with this new series, maybe linking to an episode from Enterprise?

I have not yet seen this weeks episode but last week with Mudd, was fantastic. Not related, but am wondering what triggered Rapp to suddenly remember what Spacey's did to him.

I was slightly bummed that they brought Mudd back so soon, I would have rather them wait a few more episodes...

Watching the show and the first few things that piss me off with the show is the Klingnon's. Yeah I get that you are trying to reinvent them and what not, but if this is taking place in the same canonical universe as the rest of the Star Trek series (non Abrams of course) then the extreme change in facial features and colors throws off the entire canon.

Second the coward Alien who has spider sense for danger, he basically stated that his species tries to avoid danger, problem with that is HOW IN THE HELL did they accomplish any sort of scientific advancement and or exploration? If anything the species should have died off way before they even got to the point where they were intelligent enough to develop tools. This also goes hand in hand with him undermining Michael at the beginning of the series and throughout the show. If he did not suggest that they respect the Klingnons and not fire at them first as Michael who is a SUBJECT MATTER expert suggested, then Captain Phillippa might still be alive.

Throughout the series he is CONSTANTLY belittling her and treating her as scum beneath his boot when in fact it is his poor tactics of running away from a fight, misunderstanding information that is given to him in a tactical sense, and general cowardice in the face of battle. He follows orders from Star Fleet high command as if they were the word of God instead of adapting and overcoming to the situation as it presents itself.

If you can not tell I can not STAND Saru and I really hope they kill off his character, but you know the whole character development bullshit.

I'll give you that.
It seems it's now becoming Star Trek Voyager.
I suspect everybody to die as they promised to fix continuation issues and i do not remember a technology in the future that could spot cloaked vessel (except for the gas trick in Undiscovered Country).
Still I hope....

Anyone here also seen the series “The Orville”?

Even though it’s a bit quirky at times I’m finding that Orville is a little more like traditional Star Trek than Discovery is and it’s starting to grow on me too. It’s been kind of a nice balance to be able to watch both shows this year and I’m hoping both show will continue for a while.

Yup, I'm really liking the Orville. It's got some of those Seth McFarlane jokes, but for the most part I think it's much closer of a cousin to The Next Generation than Discovery is. It helps that he has a number of the writers and producers from the Star Trek universe helping him out.

In general, I like this series. It's gritty. I like the reboot of the Klingons.

I like the reboot of the Klingons.

Honestly, I do too. I like that the Klingons are less "human" looking and sounding, it adds to the sense of "other".

So I've made it to episode 11 now and still watching it, so I guess I'm hooked on the show. Not like TNG where it took several seasons before I started watching it on a regular basis (not to mention DS9 and VOY where there are whole seasons I still haven't even watched yet)

Continuity-wise I've pretty much given up on wanting to see them tie it in with the older series. Part of me thinks that if they had taken this approach with Enterprise, that series would have lasted longer than 4 seasons.

Enterprise had a lot wrong with it in addition to the writing, mainly the cast.

-A bunch of character actors who can only play up bad sterotypes and were mainly chosen because they look good with their shirt off.
Hearing hard southern and British accents every episode was like nails on a chalkboard
-The decision to play up the sexy angle for fan service by showing midrifts, hard nipples, side boob, etc.
-Jolene Blalock looking plastic as fuck in both her face and chest
-After Quantum Leap and Major League 3, Scott Bakula wasn't the most charasmatic of captains.
-No chemistry at all between certain characters. Did Hoshi Sato (what a dumb name and the actress is Korean, not Japanese) even mesh with anyone?
- The doctor being a "sorry, here's what we were actually going for" version of Neelix from Voyager

Etc., etc., etc.
