Hello!

Disclaimer: Nobody has any intention to stalk and/or be a creep. Take notice.

I wonder how many of you have caught a glimpse of someone reading TAG on a train or else.

I just had a "ohh, comrade!" moment on a train, where I caught a glimpse of a fellow TAG member.

Cheers to you, stranger, who took Nanboku-sen today traveling towards Meguro.

Wrong day for me, but if it were on a Monday morning you might bump into me. I go to visit a lady who is well-known to some TAG members. Feel free to say hello if you spot me :)

I once stood next to a Japanese guy on the Yamanote at around 7pm on a Saturday night that was watching a full on hardcore porn movie on his phone. I loudly pointed it out to the people I was traveling with, and he got off at the next stop.

It's why I don't like people posting adult images into forum threads, it's ok reading the site on the train as the words are small and people aren't going to be that interested, but post a picture of a naked woman with a dildo rammed in her pussy and everyone on the train is bound to notice.

I am often surprised how oblivious people are, both the viewers who don't seem to realise or care what other passengers can see, and passengers who seem not to notice.

A few years ago I was sat next to a doctor who had his laptop open and was viewing slide upon slide of cancerous tumours in glorious full colour. I slammed the lid down and told him manners were important.

I sat next to another guy watching videos of people getting hit by trains or killing themselves. Not what I want to see on the way to work. I reminded him of his social responsibilities too and he seemed shocked I found it offensive.

Of course, porn is perfectly fine ;)

That's disgusting. Points for saying something! The amount of people these days desensitised to these things is crazy.. There are young children riding the trains for gods sake.

I am not so sure that it is a modern phenomenon, at least as far as Japanese trains are concerned. During my early years in Japan, 2 to 3 decades back, it was routine to see guys openly reading extremely explicit porn, sometimes very violent porn, manga on the trains. This was before mobile phones etc of course. Some of it was rather worse than anything I have glimpsed on someone's screen in recent years, fwiiw.

Obviously this does nothing to detract from your basic point. I am just doing my old guy's job of reminding you youngsters that not everything was invented yesterday! :D

A part of Japanese culture is that one's personal space is surrounded by invisible walls. People seem oblivious to what others do outside of these walls and assume others are doing the same. It's as if no one exists outside of one's personal space therefore what they're doing/looking at is irrelevant.

I saw a girl in my class sitting in front of me reading a TAG post, but I'm pretty sure it was an general post on Japanese life or something. She had some question she wanted answered and TAG happened to be discussing it in one of the less illicit subforums. Also I'm pretty sure she never even looked at the name of the site, despite the huge banner.

and passengers who seem not to notice.

The Japanese have made an art of maintaining ones private space even when surrounded by chaos.

I slammed the lid down and told him manners were important.

See above

I reminded him of his social responsibilities

More appropriate

Not at all! 20 years ago I saw the same kinds of things you described all over the country.

Reminds me that I recently saw an older Japanese or Asian lady unboxing and inspecting her new vibrator on the train.

I was torn between being happy that she had a fun night planned, and wondering if it really couldn't wait till she arrived home.

The ones that never fail to surprise me are the sports newspapers. They have sports news/scores/race info of course but they will also just have straight up nude gravure right on the next page.
And since it seems like those papers are aimed at an older audience the photo spreads always look like something from 15 years ago.
So you'll see a guy checking the race results on the train and the page facing away from him (i.e. facing everyone else) is just a big ol' bush...

I'm going to put it out in the universe.. If anyone sees me browsing it in the wild, come over and give me a high-5.

This will mean you may also be high-5'ing any random looking Asian guy in Japan wearing a blazer or a suit.. But not a terrible outcome either way, right?

I am very cautious about what I show out in the open when it comes to Safari on the iPhone. I am beginning to get that way with FB with friends sharing the fake videos with extremely loud moaning as the Audio.

In all honesty I think that there is a set bunch of people maybe a handful that post regularly. I think that the people using the forum are either not registered or they are registered but refuse to post anything.
