Since this is an anything goes thread I feel that I can respond to this.
Do the French really say chin chin? (and does it have the meaning in Japanese that I have heard it does?)
Chin chin was used for a long time in English (well, British English anyway) but it sort of died out about 30 years ago. My only recollection now of the term being used was in adverts for Cinzano (do they still make that?) in the late 70s/early 80s when a pretentious English guy was trying to impress Joan Collins (Americans of a certain age may know her best as 'Alexis Carrington' in the 80s show 'Dynasty').
This is how Brits who use the phrase "chin chin" are portrayed:-
I always find it interesting how different Netflix is in different regions. I'm currently in the UK and Lucifer is only available on Amazon Prime - not Netflix. But, I agree with you, it's a great show and season 3, which is currently airing at the moment, is a lot of fun.
Talking about Netflix, I've been watching a few Japanese shows to get myself acclimatised before my move to Japan and, frankly it's been a bit weird. It's either shows about high school/university students portraying really quite dysfunctional relationships at one extreme where the old "treat them mean to keep them keen" style of dating is used by most Japanese men. Or the Japanese version of 'Big Brother' called 'Terrace House' where nothing really seems to happen at all.
Having said that there was one show that I watched that did really draw me in. In English it's known as 'The Many Faces of Ito' but I understand that in Japan it is known as 'Itō-kun A to E'. The lead actress, someone by the name of Fumino Kimura, impressed me with an interesting and understated performance:-
So what can I really expect from being in Japan?
By the way, just talking about Fumino Kimura, I've read the posts from your experience with SA and I've also read the posts in that forum about the Universe Club. How likely am I to meet someone like Fumino Kimura in those places in Japan? I know that I should perhaps start a new thread on this subject in the Sugar Dating part of the foum, but I just thought I'd ask. I guess what I'm saying is late 20s/early 30s, some one I can spend time with out of bed as well as in it and have an interesting conversation in English as well as anything else. (For context, I'm in my early 50s)
