First of all. I've always has respect for you.

My complaint is being labeled "Left" or "Liberal" by people.

I share many views of those labeled "The Left," as well as many views of those called "Conservatives."

Lately, it seems as though these labels are being used to divide, rather than unite.

Although I feel a tinge of shame lately, I would prefer to be considered, with all the positives and negatives, as an American.

Thanks for the explanation. I don't know who is doing the dividing. But the sharply divided media sources seem to be driving us apart. I can't talk with my conservative acquaintances any more - we see two completely different sets of facts for any issue.
