U.S. 2024 Presidential Election Season kicking off...so who are you betting on??

I fully expect Vance to depose him, either de facto or de jure. Vance is Thiel's, Musk's, etc's little puppet- and he clearly hates Trump too.

I'm honestly slightly more scared of Vance. Trump is stupid and evil, so is Vance- but Vance is focused stupid evil, not just a fat asshole who is a sadist.
Oh, no doubt they're going to 25th him. That's been part of their plan. Democrats will help with that cause a crooked Vance is still preferable to Trump. He's just going to campaign again starting the first month. His dementia will also worsen. Oh, and golfing every weekend because of course.

If I was running that op, I'd let him go golfing and drop a patsy's body after the headshot into that orange melon.

Take your pick, I can totally see a Palestinian sympathiser to cement the bond with Israel being the choice, or maybe an Indian and blame it on Amit Shah if they want an excuse to outlaw offshoring of business to India.

Liberals need to learn how to message better.

A typical conservative argument is that the world is a simple place with simple people and simple problems that require simple solutions.
Liberals argue that the world is a complex place with complex people and complex problems that require complex solutions.

It's easy to see which one resonates better with people.

Also, Trump and conservatives are good at appealing to emotions, where liberals tend to appeal to reason and facts.

There's a famous quote that says, "People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you make them feel."
Trump makes a lot of people feel good with stuff like "America is a great country! I will fix our problems." etc etc Sure it's bullshit pablum but it appeals to people.

Liberals need to find a way to take their values, ideals and policies and message them in a way that is more appealing to people.

He's happy to wreck the economy. Look at his ideas about tariffs
Blanket tariffs are probably not in the real play book. He just threatens them so that he can "scale back" the tariffs to target what should be done anyways. Then he looks both strong on trade but also reasonable. Its basically what he did in his last term with china. And china is basically what is important as the country is doing lots of bullshit to impact trade like manipulating currency and heavily subsidizing target markets(mainly renewable energy and electric vehicles). It's important to not let china control those industries through illegal means as they have basically stolen all the tech from other countries and are looking to create market share to ensure global reliance on trade with china.

I don't think so. I expect Vance to sit in the back and let trump do his thing. It will probably go sour by year 3 and then Vance can act like an opposition force who doesn't support what trump is doing. That way he can compaign in 2028 as the new republican nominee who is the new face of MAGA.

I dunno dude, I have been working for very long to try to make my country a better place, including this election cycle. The last 8 years has shown a huge backslide of everything I've ever worked towards, and there's a sense of inevitability now, a sense of danger for those who do try to fight back against this symptom because Trump is very open about attacking his political opponents now, and his top AG candidate is bragging about how he's going to drag the bodies of Trump's enemies through the streets.

Fighting against the right-wing brainwashing machine feels hopeless. They've already corrupted GenZ men, and GenAlpha are already showing signs of the same brainwashing brought on by algorithmically curated manosphere bullshit. If Project2025 happens, then I am in imminent danger for various reasons. I'd rather not wait until they're trying to strip my citizenship to finally say "hey, maybe I should look out for myself a little here".
Well, you don't really owe your country anything to begin with. It's all just about the specific patch of dirt you were born on. No one decides where they were born. You have no obligation to help or do anything but look out for your own self when times are this bad

I always operated under the premise of "leave things better than they were when you arrived". I know this country is just the patch of dirt I was born on, but it's the patch of dirt I live on, so I thought I could help improve it a bit. Seems like the people here don't want that, so I'm going to narrow my focus a bit, work on improving my immediate surroundings only, and see if leaving is really the best option for me now. I'm fortunate enough that this is an actual realistic option for me.

I mean, yeah! It's always great to help when you can, of course. I just mean, you don't have to feel guilty as long as you're not actively making it worse at least.

Well yeah it was important to give the good fight. Harris wasn't better for America alone- she was better for the world.

Trump and Elon have already signaled they'll abandon Taiwan and Ukraine. Climate? Bye bye. So many are going to suffer and not just Americans.

This all makes sense, thank you.
hopefully you dont feel like i was throwing shade. I did my best not to make qualifying remarks. Whatever inhumane acts happen in the world, we gotta treat each other like humans. Aint my place to judge, nor should you take what anyone here says seriously. I could be a 13 year old kid from NORTH Korea for all you know.

Some people say Trump 2.0 will be like Hitler's Germany. Instead, I think Trump 2.0 will be more like Putin's Russia. America already has its own oligarchs.
Yeah, we're gonna follow the Russia/China model of oligarchy for sure, especially with Musk in government.

Not at all, like i said. Its helpful.

I genuinely didn't know why a policy of removing people that are somewhere illegally would be considered a bad thing.
Your response makes a lot of sense.

There are a lot of ideas and policies that are good, in theory. But the application can make or break them. For example, requiring an ID to vote doesn't sound too bad, does it? Sounds pretty common sense, right? Ok, but what if you require people to vote using very specific IDs (no student IDs, no native reservation IDs), and then close all the places you can get the required IDs in specific counties and neighborhoods, so that people who live there have to travel hours to the nearest place to get an ID. Not so fair anymore, is it?

I'm honestly for voter ID…

As soon as everyone gets a free government ID on turning 18. No cost, no muss, no fuss, and replaceable, mailed to individuals or picked up in, say, school.

And this is solely so R's can stop bitching about fraud already.

Yea I always said that if they want to make voter ID laws, then they should do national government voter IDs when registering to vote. Gather the proper documents and everyone can receive one. It would cost a lot, but it would be useful in so many other areas of life too. I know many people who can't get a driver's licence and have a hard time in life whenever ID is required.

Yep. I don't think there's any one who actually is against voter ID as a concept. The only issue is that it's easily abused to disenfranchise voters. If ID is free and easy to get and everyone can get one without trouble, then by all means, make it so.

Yep. It's really ironic because the same people who see no issue with voter ID laws when IDs cost money and sometimes significant time, also care a whole lot about every single obstacle placed in their path on the way to buy guns. "Any obstacle between me and my 2nd amendment right is unconstitutional! Now let's add a bunch of obstacles in front of the right to vote..."

The leopards ate my face Reddit is pure comedy gold right now. Trump voters asking what tariffs are; ACA users celebrating the impending doom of Obamacare etc. truly one of the most stupid elections in American history.
That leopard's gonna get supersized over the next four years....
