U.S. 2024 Presidential Election Season kicking off...so who are you betting on??

😆

I guess it's about time to address this - I think we'll close this discussion down once the inauguration is completed in January. Probably a few days after that's done, let people get all their swipes in and that will be that.
Following the closure of this discussion that has so far spanned 103 pages and 2,575 posts, there will be likely a replacement discussion thread to maintain our "One Thread" policy on politics.
Should we start a suggestion list for the title of the new thread? 😉

So I'm currently in the United States- Texas of all places, and I haven't been able to properly sleep in weeks.
I booked a trip to Italy in January and the upcoming one to Japan in March because I'm desperate to get out, if only for a little bit for now as my wallet trembles!

I can't fully explain the feeling, but I can't sit still. Most people I know are planning their exit, including myself. I run a tattoo shop in Austin but in hopefully 8 months or so we will be able to nope out

It's official. The U$70 Inauguration Day edition of DJT's bible has his name above "Holy Bible" and "God" on the cover.

And yet the same people who will drop $70 on a blasphemous Bible sold by a non-believing liar will still complain that a dozen eggs cost $3.50 instead of $3.00 during a bird flu breakout that is affecting egg-laying chickens.

I'm a fan of the Leopards Eating Faces terminology, or maybe the FAFO (fuck around and find out) phrase. We could name the new thread "Finding out during the Trump Presidency, Part Deux" or something.

But what about the predictions that Vance and Co are going to have him Amendment 25'd? Then we'd have to rename the thread.

And also, to be fair, it might not be as bad as you think. Put on your rose coloured glasses and improve your outlook. :)

Hmm, fair point. Maybe more generic? "Finding out during the 2025-2028 US Presidential Term"

That's why I did leave the title a little vague. It could be his supporters finding out, it could be his detractors finding out.

Extremely disappointed that Biden is pardoning his son. Trump will use it as a "see they do it why can't I?" Til the end if time how.

Honestly, I'm not. Trump has already pardoned people who pay him. He forced through security clearances for family with no direct or defined role in government and who professionals recommended against. Trump has already done way worse and it's not like he wasn't going to pardon people indiscriminately anyways. Biden is just protecting his son from a dictator and his party, both with a history of malicious prosecution and investigations against this specific person.

This youtube from philosopher Sandel explains why 'left behind' people voted for Donald Trump. Interesting thoughts!
Then he advocates to bring those 'left behind' people together with better public health, public education, public spaces.
Good luck with Donald Trump doing that.

Some good comments in the youtube:

Society may be broken, but you don't fix anything by electing leaders who will break it even more.

Who gives a fuck? Biden's son was a political casualty. Trump already pardoned a fuck ton of assholes. And even if he didn't pardon his son trump would continue to bitch about what a shit president Biden is.
It's politics and honestly the entire problem is the "they go low we go higher" attitude of the dems. That is why they lose.

RFK Jr is out there, but he does want to ban TV commercials for prescription medications. He is also critical of ultra processed foods. Those at least would be good ideas, but Big Pharma and Big Food can retain an army of lobbyists and litigators.
Sure, but his good ideas don't outweigh his bad. Like, at all. He is almost directly responsible for a crapton of measles deaths in Samoa for the vaccine misinfo he pushed. I'll take some commercials over that. And no way he gets anything done involving ultra-processed foods, since those are corpo dollars that Trump relies on.

On the one hand, yeah, the other fuckers did it so why not. On the other hand, what a fucking world in which all it takes is a few sociopathic arseholes to debase public life for the rest of us.

Yeah I don't think Trump needed any extra motivation to protect his own family and his own people against the law.
