U.S. 2024 Presidential Election Season kicking off...so who are you betting on??

Some of America’s current problems have their roots in past policies supported by both Democratic and Republican leaders
Considering these have been our only 2 real parties since the civil war, and our 2 party system is pretty much entrenched at this point, I'd go one further and say that pretty much all the problems we have currently that have causes rooted in governance have been caused by one of the them.

But it's not really helpful IMO to use that as an excuse to not participate. No matter what, I will be living under one of these two parties. I have to decide in November what type of government I would rather live under, one run by Trump and MAGA, or one run by Harris and Walz. There is no "abstain" option.
In the present hyper-partisan climate, one doesn’t hear much objective analysis.
It exists. You just have to look for it. Part of the problem though is that any objective analysis of half of the equation sounds like fear-mongering. Like, when someone takes an objective look at the GOP policy proposal Project 2025, and lays out all the points in it, it sounds like hyperpartisan bullshit, even if it pulls quotes direct from the document. People just can't believe that this is what they want to do, and thus brush it off.

I know this isn’t referring to the current elections, but I wanted to share a funny clip of the 1996 DNC. Brings back nostalgia and simpler times

Hope it gives you all some fun entertainment no matter what political spectrum you belong to.

Certain problems can be clearly blamed on one party or the other. However, a measure of bipartisan agreement on certain policies in the past have actually created other problems.

Yep, key point being both parties have worked together over the years on legislation to lock other parties out.

They've both taken it in turns to gerrymander the hell out of the whole country, and then throw in no term limits on Congress seats, and U.S. congressional elections are among the most uncompetitive in the world. In 2020, 97 percent of congressional seats were held by incumbents. That makes US congressional races roughly as competitive (and fair) as Iraqi elections under Saddam Hussein. The Senate is even worse, in 2022 99% of seats were held by an incumbent. That's more than Putin swang in what is seen as the most blatantly rigged election in Russian history.

They also set the rules for ballot access requirements. In PA, Republican and Democrat candidates require 2,000 signatures to get on the ballot. Other party members require... 67,000. In Georgia, a third party candidate needs to get the signatures of 5% of all registered voters. There's roughly 7 million in total, so a candidate would need to get more than 350,000 individual signatures.

Throw in a lack of term limits on the Supreme Court, and you've got a lock on a political system.

I personally think the single biggest bad decision made by a consensus of both parties was the The Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929, which capped the House (and thus the Electoral College), That led pretty directly to the entrenchment of the 2 party system and the gridlock we're seeing today, and the fact that the GOP hasn't won a popular vote in decades and yet has had multiple presidencies.

Ah, Donnie is going berserk again about mail-in ballots (despite having himself voted by mail in the past)
Someone is afraid to lose again…

So this is where the political debate is at now in the US? Whether pets are eaten or not? 😂

Ok I must admit the horror : in France we eat bunnies. We even make pâté with them. Nuke us, Don Junior, for our sins cannot be redeemed…

If there was any doubt about the outcome of the election, Taylor Swift just endorsed Harris, while lambasting Trump’s campaign for using unauthorized AI imagery of her. And Tay-tay swings a bigger voting block than almost anyone - a recent survey indicated that more than half of all US adults are Taylor Swift fans - and half of those are her diehard “Swifties”.

Crazy that a 39 year old who makes music for women who give toothy head wields such power.

This is all TDS BS. We all know that honest Trump would never let fake endorsements appear on his site, as much as he would never let un-authorized songs be played during his meetings, as much as in general he would never lie to the American people.

I say Tay Tay has TDS and thats all .

I wanna agree with this, but she also endorsed Bredesen in the TN Senate race and he still lost.

As for the debate itself, I have the concept of an opinion on it. I'll need to avoid the illegal alien who's eating cats and dogs, and is about to be made transgender by Marxist Kamala first though

Man, I watched the debate with a singular hope in mind. I wanted her to call him weird on national TV…she didn’t have the balls to do it so I’m disappointed. She had so many opportunities to just say “that’s just weird”.
