U.S. 2028 Presidential Election Season and General U.S. Politics Thread

Some would argue that the US has never been a real democracy, but an oligarchy in a fancy dress, since its inception.

Sure, someone could argue that.

But if they were trying at the same time to imply that the situation under Trump is okay, the same as it's always been, you'd know that they were chock full of bullshit.

China, Japan, and South Korea forming a pseudo economic alliance against the tariffs…

He really managed to unite everyone… who isn't American against America.
I don't know why people act so shocked by this news though like other Asian countries should never forgive the past with Japan.
China and Korea were already big trade partners and big cultural exchange partners before this, but people act like just because there is bad blood they did not want anything to do with each other as a whole before this pact.

Even better, this is the formula and numbers you get if you ask AI how to apply tariffs systematically. It answers "use a rounded trade deficit number with a floor of 10%." but then it also goes on to essentially say "this is a dumb idea because reality is more complex than this".

We are truly living in the dumbest fucking possible timeline.

My prediction is all satire TV shows will get cancelled as they cannot come up with anything crazier that is already going on in real life.
For me it ruins every espionage/ government intrigue show. Trump help a press conference to push the market into world record free fall and then told the press he was going to a GOLF TOURNAMENT (which costs american hundreds of millions in security costs) If a Liberal did this to the stock market and said they were going on vacation MID WEEK- they'ed freakin end them!

That's because that's been exactly how they've conducted themselves on higher levels for the last 80 years. Chinese and Korean leaders would bring out the Japan bogeyman every time there was public dissatisfaction with the way they run things, Japanese leaders would decry the perceived slander, and the cycle continues.

It seems that Trump presents them with a better level of bogey than even WWII atrocities.

And I just remembered, there was actually a band called Bogey Trump back in the mid 90s. Clearly they knew something we didn't!

There is a lot to digest here about the Korean-Chinese relationship. Internally, the Korean public is very divided on this and a lot of their internal political struggle had to do just with that…with the perceived closeness some of their presidents had to china. Most Koreans I know heavily dislike the Chinese and they are scared of getting in bed with China. So knowing that, it is kinda surprising to see them AND Japan together and it says a lot about how they see America. I wish Europe did this too or something similar. I've said it before, that's the way to force the American hands….show them that if they let the 80 yrs old kuro gyaru have his way, the US will lose all their allies.

Never has American selfishness been more evident than sinking the world economy- and our own- off of perceived and imagined slights.

Don't forget our stupidity. We've had a worldwide reputation for cluelessness before, but now we're showcasing our outright malicious ignorance for the entire world to see.

I'm fully expecting a bloodbath when the markets open up Monday morning in the States. If you have a 401k or any portfolio, I'd suggest not looking at it.

FML. I work in equity trading and Friday was our heaviest volume day ever by 30%.
I expect to bust that tomorrow (my time).

See I don't mind so much the 401k I'm not getting that for another 25 years anyways

My liquid brokerage account on the other hand... I should have been more heavy in cash...

I don't understand the economic sense of the Trump actions.

First, he gets rid of a lot of immigrants, many of whom do low paying jobs in agriculture. So Americans have to take up those low level jobs.
The unemployment rate is low in the US, 4%, so putting pressure on the labour market increases prices and inflation.

Then he introduces tariffs on order to bring jobs back to the US. Jobs that were stolen by other rapist countries. In order to Make America Great Again.
Vietnam really raped the US lately. So he put a high tariff on Vietnam. That would bring the low level pay Vietnam jobs to the US.
Which means again, replacing higher pay US jobs with low pay jobs.
At the same time, there are not enough unemployed people in the US to take up the new jobs. So labour market tightening and inflation increasing.

For sure, I must see this wrong somewhere. I am not that intelligent.

It's not that you're not that intelligent, it really is that they're that dumb...
