I'm not that hopeful, but it would be to their benefit to amend the nationality law to allow dual nationality. Perhaps restricting certain roles to mono-nationals, such as police, military, fire, and national level elected officials.

A large part of the country manipulated by Abe and extreme right and the strong propaganda of "Japanese blood" but they shut up for sport competition etc...in so many countries politicians have dual nationality, it's not a problem at all.
The most funny point is so many people here still think Japan has no blood from China and Korea :ROFLMAO:

Yep, but before 85 I was not in the position to get the local passport and after the law change I was sure it will be overturned soon. Now I don't think so anymore.

It took them long enough to even allow voting by Japanese living abroad so I don't think the dual citizenship will come back my life time. The lawmakers don't want international or otherwise broadly thinking people to vote...

It is not only about kanji. I would be limited only to the first and last name, thus middle name would be lost.

To be honest I would not worry about that a bit. I would trade all my middle names for a Japanese passport. ;) Who uses them anyway? And who says you cannot use a name that is not official? Even some Japanese girls continue to go with their original last names after getting married even while their official last name has changed.

And if you could keep your original passport at least the name would stay there.

True, but then do many other countries too. He ain't one of us changes very easily to he is my hometown boy after a medal in World Championships...

And I think the tide has turned the other way in more liberal countries too. Now in Europe there is quite much talk about limiting politicians and army personnel to "true born people". Part of is because of the new Russian politics (nothing new in them though) and part because the new waves of immigrants has diluted the value of the passports in many countries.

Active Duty Military. That is how I am here and honestly if I could live here I would, only issue is finding a job entry level around my skill level that pays as much as I am currently receiving. Even though at my rank it is around 28k a year, the actual amount is around 64-66k a year. Kinda pisses me off when I see the whole 15 a hour argument on FB and people using the military to prove a point that they get paid for less to do so much more when I can literally prove that that is total bullshit. (Hijacking thread to prove a point sorry)
Take a Grunt (door kicker the ones you see fighting)
Base Pay is around 30 a year or less
If they are able to live out in town they get an additional 12k a year
Medical and dental are free to include surgeries so don't ask me for a pay there.
Food allowance is about 6-7k a year
Cost of Living about 3.6-4.8k a year
If they deploy to a combat zone for a year they get additional pay which is tax free, hence why you see most young troops buying corvettes and what not after deployment which can get up to 60k
I mean the pays begin to stack up.

To the TAG manager if you wish to remove this comment then so be it and I apologize.

In my case it would be more interesting and complicated. In the country I'm from patronymics are used as middle name, i.e. it is not something that can be easily dropped.

I don't know where you got that info from but you don't have to change your name at all.
You are allowed to use your current name in its Katakana form.
You are right, it is possible to use katakana nowadays. The last time I was interesting in this topic only kanji was allowed, so I guess I stuck in the past then :).
Unfortunately, for some people it won't make life easier, because 1) they still have to invent ways to pass middle name, 2) characters support might differ from city hall/ward office, because each of them use own syste)
