I've had a few really good bowls of unique ramen lately so I am going to share. To be honest though the reason I made this post is hopefully some of you guys have other good suggestions for non-standard ramen to give that I can try.

Tomato + Shrimp Tsukemen : Tsukemen Gonokami Seisakusho in Shinjuku

They have other options but I think the only reason to go is for the tomato version. Really good flavor on the soup, but it often has a line up.

Mapo Tofu Cheese Ramen : すするか、すすらんか in Osaka (or Nara)

If you like cheese and you like mapo tofu this was ridiculously good, I will probably literally go back to Osaka again just get a Rikuro's cheesecake, go see Rio, and then get this bowl of ramen.

Szechuan style / dandan ramen : Akakuro in Shinjuku

Dandan noodles are I guess not too unique, but this bowl of Szechuan fusion ramen is more than just dandan noodles, it's really good.

This actually looks good. I love ramen, I’ve eaten quite a bit at probably a hundred places or so all my years living here. I’ve never imagined cheese, tofu and ramen together in the same bowl. What would you rate it? I’m going back to Tokyo this weekend and wanna show my girl something new.

I'm not trying to be dramatic but that mapo tofu ramen is one of the best things I've eaten, in general. They torch the cheese in front of you too sorta of fun lol.

Thanks for sharing and both places are in Shinjuku. Will definitely be on my list to visit.

Well, considering tomato tsukemen was posted already, I don't know this counts as super unique but Ramen Hiiragi in Nagasaki was the first place I had tomato ramen at and it was incredible. Apron absolutely required for an idiot like me but damn did that ramen hit the spot. I even ate the fried eggplant that was in it despite hating eggplant. Would eat again.

Tomato + Shrimp Tsukemen
Since you're already a fan of shrimp tsukemen, you should try Ebisoba Ichigen. They have a branch in Shinjuku. They have 3 levels of broth: all shrimp, half/half shrimp and tonkotsu, and mostly tonkotsu. Looking at youtube, there's not much coverage in English, but definitely the best ramen I had while I was at their main branch in Sapporo

Hashigo in Ginza has a good tantanmen with a curried tonkatsu fillet on top and worth a try.
